THE PASSING OF BASKET BALL The basket ball game with North Carolina State College February 26 ended the season so far as Guilford is concerned. The influenza epidemic cut the basket ball schedule short. Seven games were concelled. Elon is the only college of central North Carolina that Guilford has not play ed. Both scheduled games with Elon were cancelled. The record made by the Quaker quint is by no means a bad one. Of the ten games played during the season Guilford won four and scored 29 4 points to the 289 points of the opposing teams. Taking the material from which Coach Doak moulded his teams into consideration and also the three weeks that he was unable to attend his work, he is to be congratulated for his work. One man on the squad —Zachary—had won a letter in bas ket ball. Zachary and Frazier were the outstanding stars during the en tire season. Frazier at left forward proved himself to be one of the fast est players and best shots in the state. He played in eight games and has to his credit the sum of 130 points. Forty-five of these points were from four goals. Captain Zachary at forward part of the time and center the rest of the time, play ed in every game, and has to his credit more field goals than any oth er man on the squad. What he lacked in speed was offset by his strength. Cox, through the whole season, guarded well. In spite of the fact that he did not score during the entire season, he proved himself to be a valuable man in each of the eight games in which he participated. J. C. Newlin had never taken part in college basket ball until this year, but his development was so rapid that he occupied the bench during only four games at the first of the season. He scored sixteen points in six games. Anderson at guard play ed in every game except the last one. He scored only four points during the season, but he could always be depended on as a guard. Hambright played in one game and scoried four points. Smith at the beginning of the season made an excellent show ing and played good basket ball un til he stopped playing a short while before the season closed. He played in seven games and scored 2 9 points. Raiford, Lineberry, Mcßane and Stafford are due much credit for their service in helping to build up the team. Stafford played in two games and scored ten points. Rai ford played in five games and scored six points. Mcßane played in two games. Lineberry played in one game. It is easily seen that for next year basket ball material will be more plentiful than it was this year. Not one of the varsity men will get his diploma this year. CAMPUS NOTES. The "flu" has come, lingered a while and at last left. For good and all, we hope. Everyone is now out. Some are weakened considerably by their sickness, but all are getting stronger daily. Work on the minstrel is progress ing nicely. The end and stunt men have been selected, the overture and other songs secured, and practice is now going on daily in preparation for the big event which will be pull ed off the 27th of March.
