4 SOPHOMORES CARRY OFF TRACK MEET (Continued from first page.) enormous amount of food in an ex ceedingly short period of time. He made a good show. Fleetwood elim inated himself from the cramfest when four crackers which he was attempting to swallow without chewing lodged somewhere above his stomach. In the clothespin race the Sopho mores won out by a small margain in front of the Juniors. rll the ithree-legged race all the horrors of a modern speed away were experienced. Runners collid ed; the floor was shaken; yells of encouragement and shrieks of de spair rent the air; while Vanner Neece and Donna Mcßane of the Senior class broke the ribbon a head and neck's length in front of their closest rivals. Vanner Neece, '2O, won the suit case race with that wonderful speed which she seldom displays except on rainy Sabbaths when she goes to her "parson." The sack race, over which quite a dispute arose, was after the second heat won by Herman Raiford, '2l. Then came .the most exciting and heartrending event of the evening. Blushing maidens and bashful boys turned from the sight; jealous lov ers shrank back in despair; Miss Louise shook her fist with righteous indignation; but the eager couples chewed on in spite of all, "forgetting that which was behind and reaching forth unto that which was before," thinking only of the sweetness in middle of the string. Vera Mcßane and' David White carried off first honors in this for the third time in the past three years. The high cost of potatoes did not prevent the potato race. Each class chose its fastest girl (best runner) for .this event. Eurie Teague, '22, last year champion potato grabber, had little difficulty in holding her title to the championship for this year. Last of all came the work of the heavyweights—tug of war—in which four boys and three girls from each class set their oxen strength and skill against an equal number of the opposing class. The "Preps" easily dragged the Freshmen to ithe limit and held them for time. The Sopho mores snatched the Juniors off their feet and then led' the Seniors in the same path. The final pull was the only real tussle of he evening, but the "Preps" were unable to stop the Sophomore tractor. The Sophomores carried away the undisputed title to the cup, having won five events to the Seniors' three and Juniors' two. Summary. Events. Winners. WE UKT ERIANS DISCUSS LABOR AND CAPITAL The last meeting of the Webste rian Society was cut short due to the basket ball game to be played that night. The members present were well entertained, however, by the following debalte: "Resolved, That labor has more power than does capital." Paul Rayle and Han sel Beeson, for the affirmative, gave proof to show that labor is better or ganized and has the public's sympa thy. The negative, upheld by Geo. Kinney and Seth Fleetwood, sought to prove that capital has dbne more for the public and is more popular. The judges rendered a decision in favor of the affirmative. This being the night for election of officers the following men were elected: President, R. A. Lineberry; secretary, R. C. Bulla; marshal, Mat Lee Thompson.
