February 2, 1921. CAMPUS NOTES Miss Mary Taylor was the week end guest of lrer sister Luna Taylor. Miss Louise Powers cf German ton was the attractive guast of Irene Kurfeer for the past few days. Mr. Roger Kiser 'l9. who is now studying at the University of North Carolina was a visitor at the college Saturday and Sunday. Miss Louis Caldweil aid Anna Jones of Madison spent the weekend with Lucile Cardwell. Mr. Shields Cameron '2O spent "Saturday and Sunday on the campus. FOUNDER'S SOCIAL The social committee made up of members of the Young Woman's and Young Men's Christian Association, directed, what was probably the most enjoyable college social that has been given this year. Shortly after the parlors and soci ety halls of Founders Hall had been filled with students, the entire group was reshuifled by the social commit tee and dealt out to the numerous tables in couples. The scene that followed would have reminded one of the recent examination week had not the exchange of information and talking been so abundant. An exam ination covering three very important and humerous courses of study was given. The winners, Mary Dixon and "Jim" Newlin were presented a large box of candy. The remainder of the evening was taken up by numerous games, and much talking and singing. MRS. BROWN ENTERTAINS FOUNDERS HALL GIRLS On Wednesday evening. January nineteenth at nine thirty. Mrs. Brown opened her doors to a band of Foun ders Hall girls and helped them to forget exams by giving them a party. The winking of the lights at ten fif teen caused the girls to stay only forty-five minutes but everybody had a good time. Mrs. Brown and Misses Hazel and Virginia Brown served de licious refreshments: Sandwiches, coffee, concoction of fruits, whipped cream and cakes. Those enjoying Mrs. Brown's hospitality were: Misses Bulla. Stewart. Raiford. Dixon. Motley. A. Brown. Ou';land, and Page. "AM I MY BROTHER'S KEEPER?" The Subject Which Mrs. Williams Developes In "Y. W." Meeting. Mrs. Edgar Williams gave an inter esting. instiuctive and inspiring talk to the Young Women's Christian As sociation, on Thursday evening, Jan uary 27. Mrs. Williams took as the subject of her talk the memoi*able words of Cain—his reply to his Master. "Am I my brother's keeper?" The leader showed that since our lives are so closely interlinked, and interdepen dent upon each othfr, each one is to a very great extent his brother's keeper. The talk was one of a number of a very high type that have been de livered by visiting ladies to the local Young Women's Association. BUREAU OF INFORMATION TO BE ESTABLISHED A Part of the College Extension Work The College authorities are plan ning to establish a Bureau of Infor mation for the Young Friends Soci eties of North Carolina Yearly Meet ing. This addition to the extension work of the college is to meet the de- mand for material and assistance that comes from almost evei*y Friends community. Many of the young people never attend college. Few of the young peoples' societies have access to a good library. The work of the Bureau of Information would be to meet the demands and needs of these societies and young people. The course of study of each society would be outlined in advance, by the bureau. ,Jind reference books pro vided. This will meet the big need of the Christian End'eavor Societies, that have rather strong membership but very little literature to work with. The proposed bureau would not only aid young friends societies but individuals who for any reason are not able to attend colllege even for the short course that is now being given. A young man or young woman desiring to make a study of some defi nite subject, would be able to get the course outlined and reference books provided. If text books are necessary the student will get advice concerning the books to purchase, This scheme will necessitate and eventually build up a circulating li brary, which can be made to benefit every community of the state. This plan is just one of the many efforts of President Binford to make the college serve every Friends com munity in the North Carolina Yearly Meeting and the non-friends commu nity as well. It is a big addition to the present college extension wore, which is just now in its infancy, but which promises to develop into a strong department of the college. C. C. CUNTRYMAN HEARD BY COLLEGE STUDENTS IN MORNING CHAPEL C. C. Cuntryman, a prominent lec turer and public speaker, spoke to the student body during the Monday morning chapel. Mr. Countryman has lectured quite extensively in the in terest of the Young Men's Christian Association in North Carolina, and throughout the United States. He spoke briefly of the advantages of a small college over the larger insittu tions. and of the reasons why all the years of toil, and expenditure of mon ey in secu 'ing an education are worth white. The whole student body was well pleased with Mr. Countryman's short talk and his pleasing disposition.
