The bluebird and cardinal dart to and fro on trees with swelling buds. The campus has a faint tint of green and the sun shines down on students, showing symptoms of coming spring fever. It is warm enough now that the walk from Cannon's may be made at one's leisure in comfort with sufficient time to allow all boys to be emptied of their contents and scattered prominently along the front walk. Should the time used in trav el not suffice for the consumption of all edibles the weather is suitable for open windows and ones in their rooms the purchasers lean back and glory in the fact that all-out-doors makes a great waste basket. Look at another scene. The second period is nearly half over. May meets Susan on the walk: "0 Su san! has the mail been put up? I wonder if I got any." Having receiv ed a nod from May, Susan starts for the post office straight as the crow flies. 0 yes, she goes across the campus—couldn't help it, she was in a hurry, she might have some mail. True the walks are not ideal but they were made to walk on and the grass was not. Have you evei' realized that the Guilford campus is really beautiful. Well, it is! There is nothing artificial about it. There you will find real beauty. In the spring the center portions of the campus are always fresh and green but there is a worn and dead look to the edges and Corners. Why can't YOU keep on the walks and so help to have a prettier campus. NOW is the time to start! Do not check the first tender blades of grass. Are you a true and loyal Guil fordian? Probably we all are when the great tests come, but how about these every day affairs. At the end of each day is Guilford a bet ter place to live because you have done your best for her? I am sure there are some of us that have not always done our best, for, if we had, there would be no paper aacks or banana peels strewn along the front road, the ground under our windows would not resemble the garbage heap and the corners on the campus would not show signs of many footprints. These are only small things, but they leave a bad impression to the observer. It has been truly said, "The beau tiful is as useful as the useful." Guilford needs your coopei'ation to keep its campus beautiful. "Do American colleges offer health as well as knowledge to the stu dent?'' This is a question which is occupying the minds of American people today. People are beginning to realize the value of physical de velopment as well as mental devel opment. But with this fact before us, we also realize that a great many people are of the opinion that the mind can be developed in its fullest sense with a bodily develop ment still incomplete. This is a mistake. It is the duty of every In dividual to develop himself physical ly. The person who is developed well physically, finds a real joy in work and a pleasure in living. If you want to really live all through your life, you will have to remember that the mechanism of your body must be given most careful attention. Let us suppose you are only an or dinary person, enjoying usual health and with the average mental outlook. You are simply drifting and doing, as you think, the best you can. You are making no special efforts, to develop your body, your mind is not being developed as it should. Life may seem worth while, now and then, —but living in this sort of manner is usually a humdrum, mo notonous existence. BASKET BALL LEAGUE (Continued from page 1 time ago by Coach Doak. These last games, as they were arranged ac cording to the first half of the sched ule, were postponed for a short time on account of the absence of several players from the college. These games will be played in the near future, owing to the eager desire of the various quints to know just how the beam of the balances, which is now horizontal, will tip. The standing of the various teams at present is as follows: White Sox 1.000 Nationals 1.000 Athletics 1.000 Yankees 750 Browns 500 Red Sox 250 Tigei's 250 Indians 000 Much enthusiasm has been showing in the games thus far, together with activities. If the prospective ath lets from the realm of non-ath lets into the field of athletics actvities. If the prospective athe letes continue their present work, Coach Doak may rest assured of a powerful team in the near future. THE GUILFORDIAN J. M. HENDRIX & CO. THE HOME OF GOOD SHOES Greenrboro, N.
