B.—Those desiring additional copies of the paper may secure them for the sum of 10 cents per copy Member of Intercollegiate Press Association EDITORIAL The following letter reached the Guilfordian a few days ago: "Mr. Editor: To us the arrival of no paper at the Chapel Hill Post Office is more highly anticipated than that of the Guilford ian. We wish to commend the Ed itorial Staff for the work it is do ing. The Alumni are especial ly interesting to all who have attend ed college there. Yet it seems to us that something of vital importance is frequently left undone. The hap penings reported in the Guilfordian are of necessity several days late in reaching the public and besides its circulation is limited more or less to intimate friends of the Institution. We would like to see more reports of atheletic games and other college ac tivities in the daily papers. Whether Guilford wins or loses we want to know it before the Guilfordian can reach us. Certainly the daily news papers will welcome any such reports and we sincerely hope that some energetic student will take it upon himself or herself to make known more of the activities of "our col lege." Not only to us but to the peo ple of North Carolina and elsewhere." "Quaker Tar Heels" The above letter was written by former Guilford students, now at the University of North Carolina, but it possibly expresses the feeling of many friends of this institution. Guilford has never been as careful to get matters of interest concerning the college in the news papers of the State. The blame for thhis may be placed on the shoulders of more than one person or groups, and the Guilfordian must bear its part. The main point in this short note of friendly criticism is that the col lege can never hope for former stu dents and friends of the college to do all that is possible for them to do iunless the college does its bit for these people. FIFTY DOLLARS REWARD The "John O'Conner" Who lived the life of a recluse and who was a shoe cobble; and who died at Has tings, Nebraska, leaving a large es tate, and with his true identity un known. was in fact James Madison Kirkman, sometimes called "Matt," and also "Governor" Kirkman. On him was found an old photo graph taken between 1857 and 1869. All names of the photogra pher, and town and state where taken were scratched off of the picture back. He worked as a shoe cobbler about 1856-59 in Guilford College, N. C. He was a son of Harrison Kirkman. I will give $50.00 for a duplicate of the pic Lure back on an old photo, that contains the words "Photo graphic Parlors'' and "201 V 2 Main Street" on its back; and that has worked into the art design on the back of the picture a palm tree on the left side. The picture back to be a duplicate should be 2Ms inches wide by 4 inches long. Look at your old photographs and if you find one which has "201 % Main Street" printed on the back, write to me at once. Address: W. W. Bulman, Attorney-at-Law, Clariton, lowa. Lucas County. IT ISN'T THE COLLEGE—IT'S YOU If you want to have the kind of college Like the kind of college you like, You needn't slip your clothes in a grip And start on a long, long hike; You'll only find what you left be hind, For there's nothing that's really new. It's a knock at yourself when you knock your school It isn't the college —it's you. You wouldn't expect, if you mined your soil, Bumper crops that you used to get; Nor aught but runts from feeding that stunts; Nor payment without a debt. One gets returns from what he earns— Something must first be due. If your school doesn't pay, look at it this way: It isn't the college—it's you. Real schools are not made by men afraid That others will get ahead. When every one works and nobody shirks, You can raise a college from the dead. And if while you make your personal stake, Your neighbors can make one, too, Your college will be what you want it to be; It isn't the college—it's you. —Anonymous.
