White, both members of the class of 1920, have moved into Miss Sallie White's cottage near the college. Mr. White is still secretary and treasurer of the White Realty Company of Greensboro. * * * Fred Morris 'l6 who has fov the past year been post master at Kernersville. has recently with his sister Addie 'IS as partner erected a wet-wash laundry in his home town. The probabilities are that the Morris laundry will be a success for there was a great demand for an establishment of this nature at Kernersville. The following clipping con cerning James Hoge Ricks 'OS was taken from a Washington paper during the summer: Judge James Hoge Ricks of the juvenile and domestic relati ons court, Richmond, yesterday was elected President of the Na tional Probation Association at its seventeenth annual conference. at the Williard Hotel. * * * Alpheus F. Zachary 'l 2 was married to Miss Lizzie Harris on June .'slst, 1923. * # Grady Mcßane '22 is teacher of Science in the Graham High School. Mr. Mcßane also has charge of the athletics in this school. * * * Bessie Gutherie 'IG is teaching English in the Greensboro High School. * * * The town of Asheboro has or ganized a chamber of commerce with Dr. J. G. Crutchfield as pres ident and T. Fletcher Bulla as secretary. Dr. Crutchfield, and old student of Guilford and better know to Guilfordians as "Jim," is a dentist located in Asheboro. Fletcher Bulla is a member of the class of 1911 and is Superinten dent of Schools of Randolph County. * # # Association Members Standing For the past six months it has been the ambition of the secre tary of the Alumni association to have five hundred active mem bers in the association. He had hoped that there would be at least a few classes with an ac tive membership of 100%. The following table shows the date of graduation of the class, the number of members and the num ber paying their dues: Date Number Act. Mem. Immediately following lunch the entire student body assembled in front of Founders hall. There under the guidance of Miss Louise the journey be gan. It is needles to say that pairs quickly grew out of this multitude of explorers. The pur pose of this journey at far as the student body was concerned was very heterogeneous. Some went fur the purpose of increasing their athletic ability. Then there was the bunch of couriosity seek ers who were afraid something would happen real interesting if they had stayed at home. And last one finds the select bunch who were only living in the present and visualizing the future. This class could be spot ted. in pairs, the duality of which could only be detected upon close examination. (hving to the luminosity of the sun little can be said of the frequent groans of some gallant youth who with a carefully pre pared line was possibly forced to, take the word "no" as a trophy of such an occasion. After arriving at Green's camp ing ground the trampers covered the old historic place in small groups of two each. Later in the day 800 hot dogs found their way down the usual routes accompanied by hot coffer' and hard tack. Miss Louise then used her potent influence in turn ing the faces of the explorers homeward. POULTRY EXHIRIT GETS THREE PRIZES AT FAIR The poultry department of Guilford college had three prize winners out of three entries made in the Greensboro fair, l'rof. Pan coast seems to be delighted over the results of first public appear ance of the work of this new department. Tie received first prize for a Barred Rock cockere and also first prize for Barred Rock pen and a third prize on the other cockerel. 1910 13 -I 1911 23 C 1912 1-2 3 1913 24 7 1914 31 (i 1915 13 2 1916 20 1 191? 15 7 1918 18 2 1919 13 4 1920 IT 3 1921 19 7 1922 20 7 No. of old students 12 Instead of five hundred active members there are about 150. The classes of 1900 and 1901 show the highest percentage of active membership, 57% and 55% respectively. It is urged that each graduate who reads this column do something to impress upon his or her classmates the nec essity of paying the Alumni rhies and the service they will be rendering to the college by so rloing. THE GUILFORDIAN DEPARTMENT NOTES On Saturday afternoon, Octo ber t-"5, Madame Hoffimann, Miss Hedwig Hoffmann, and Mrs. Raymond Binford attended a meeting of the American Asso ciation of University Women which was held at X. C. C. W., Greensboro. X. C. ** * ♦ Miss Hoffmann reports that ihe play practices are progressing nicely and much interest is being manifested in the work. From all indications a good play i expected. A number of new chairs have been added to the Chemistry Lecture room, which help out considerablv in the seating capa city. The room is able to accom modate about sixty students now with perfect comfort. * * * The new desks in the Chemis try Labratorv have been complet ed and assignment made to the students. These desks are a val uable addition as it greatly fa cilitates work in the laboratory. AROUND THE CAMPUS As yet the trip to the battle ground has produced 110 com plications with which Miss Louise will have to deal, but it is expected by the best author ities, that by the time Thanks giving is over some pairs of re suits will be noted. This column is just some more gossip and worthless opin ion about things that we all see around Guilford. It has no lesson to teach nor moral to expound. If you want either of the latter we would misdirecth quote from Dante "Abandon a!' hope ye who read further." We notice that Dr. Binford has ' advised a more economical use of water. We offer a suggestion that, Freshmen still be permitted to observe Saturday rites. A rumor has been heard to the ' effect that Professor Farris has ! interested some of his classes in ! poetry. (Jirls, you should l)e care- ! fill in opening strange letters. ! * * * 1 J We understand that a new ! well is being dug. To protect • such dogs as may be spending,' their evenings out, we submit - that a good fence should be put - around it. * * * i 4 | 1 Professor L. L. White told his ; psychology class that overeating!, was dangerous. W'e suppose . that accounts for the satisfied smile that went up at the Found er's tables the meal immediaately following. Miss Alvin Stone spent the week " d at her home in Greensboro. Miss Cora Brown and Orin Swan son spent the week-end at Pilot Mountain. Miss Lillian Sullivan spent the I week-end at Kernersville. Mr. 0. P. McArthur of Asheville was on the campus to see his neice, i Mary Lou Wilkins. |ll!llll!llllllllllllllllllllllllllllli;illlllllllllllllil!i!illllli!lll!lii!llilllllllllliillllffl SOCIAL AND COMMERCIAL ENGRAVING Carnlma (Ctmtpany 214 North Elm Street, Greensboro, N.
