M.-Y. W. Dec. 15.—At the joint Christmas meeting of the Young Women's and Young Men's Christian Associations on Thursday evening, Joseph Peele read Charles Dickens "Christmas Carol." The atmosphere of Christmas per vaded the occasion, with a Christmas tree and dimmed lights, decorating the platform, tending to lend a mythologi cal effect. The meeting was opened with the Male Quartet singing off stage. After a group of Christmas carols, Alice Hazard offered prayer. Miss Eva Campbell then sang with excellent ex pression a Christmas lullaby. Mr. Peele's reading of "The Christ mas Carol," was done with fine inter pretation. He drew very clear pictures of old Scrooge and Bob Cratchet, and his audience felt the great importance of the night before Christmas to Old Scrooge. The message of a joyous and giving Christmas reached the hearts of all his hearers. WALTER ROBERTSON SPEAKS IN CHAPEL Dec. 15.—Walter Robertson gave an interesting talk in cliapel Thursday morning. He chose for his topic, "The Library of the Mind." In illustrating the great changes that take place he gave as an example the evolution of geography. "First geography taught that the world was flat, then we were taught that the world was round, and now we are taught that the world is crooked." Walter stated that, "A child's mind is similar to a ball covered with glue and in rolling around will pick up anything with which it comes in con tact but a man's mind is trained along a definite line of thought. The purpose of a college education is to train the mind to adopt itself to different condi tions. The important thing is to have a plastic mind. A man has a more semetrical mind if he is well educated." Mr. Robertson concluded his re marks by saying, "A good recollection is better than a large memory, however, the best memory schemes are those where the association is real and logical and not arbitrary." EUPHONIAN CLUB GIVES DIRECTOR XMAS GIFT Dec. 16.—At a call meeting of the Euphonian Glee Club, on Friday, the president, Sara Edgerton, presented to the director, Mr. Max Noah, a large size picture of the Club, to be placed in his studio. The president stated that nothing could ever express the appreciation of the Glee Club for the interest he had shown and the untiring effort he had put forth. Mr. Noah expressed his sincere thanks to the Club for the gift and said he heartily appreciated the full co-operation the members of the Club had given him. Anne F.—"Would you marry for money ?" LYNDON HOBBS SPEAKS ON READING The Clever and Witty Discussion Be tween the Speaker and Prof. Davis Greatly Appreciated Dec. 12.—Those who were present in chapel Thursday morning enjoyed, for the first time a spiritual discussion be tween Dr. Hobbs and Professor Davis. In addition to this argument Dr. Hobbs spoke to the students on the vital necessity of an individual pe rusing carefully the books which he must come in contact with, for his own personal knowledge. If he will notice carefully all the publi,c speakers that we are permitted to hear and contrast them carefully we can easily detect a wide range of opinions on any one subject. These various doctrines as put forth by a great many of our public speakers, es pecially those in the ministerial field, have a dominant force on the rising generation. With this one thing in view we should study very carefully all material possible centering our atten tion more directly on the perusal of the Bible, in order that we can be able to repudiate any doctrine which may not be in harmony with its teach ings. DR. BINFORD SPEAKS AT ROTARY MEETING Max Noah Sing's Several Songs and Minnesingers Club Participates in Program Dec. 15.—At the Rotary Club Meeting at the Sheraton Hotel in High Point, Thursday noon, Dr. Raymond Binford gave a short after-dinner address using the theme of "Fellowship." In addition to the address the program consisted of a group of songs by the Minnesingers' Quartet and a couple of songs by Mr. Noah, all of which were very well re ceived by the members of the Club. The Quartet consisted of Turner Moon, Howard Trivette, Paul Reynolds, and Robert Van der Voort. Waitress—"Order, please." Melntyre—"What's the matter?
