Spring Is Just Around The Corner - - - Well, Spring Elections Anyway The fact that the air is still a slight bit chill doesn't stop spring from coming not the spring elections at Guilford College, at any rate. Tomorrow is sched uled to be a big day for the ma jority of students on the campus. Annual Spring Elections will take place and the results, which will be announced as soon as all the votes can be tabulated, will be of interest to almost everyone connected with the college. The committee in charge of the whole affair was appointed by the Student Affairs Board some time ago. This year's Election Committee is headed by Bill Bloom president of the literary Society. The Committee has done an excellent job thus far in pre paring for the big event. The candidates' names were turned in less than two weeks ago, and Spring Vacation Begins Saturday Volume XLIV Anne Taylor, Lyndal Warren Run For WSG President Anne Taylor and Lynn Warren will compete in the race for presi dent of the Women's Student Gov ernment, with the runner-up serv ing in the capacity of the vice president of the organization. Lyndal Warren is an English major from Wilmington, N. C. She is a rising senior, and has been a representative to the Wo men's Student Government for three years. This year she was president of the Westminster Fel lowship. and previously she has served as secretary of the Wo men's Athletic Association. Lynn has been a member of the Social Committee and the Quaker staff. Anne Taylor is a math major from Pilot Mountain, N. C. She is also a rising senior, and is a candidate for managing editor of the Guilfordian this year. Anne has served as vice-president of the junior class, and as marshal. She is a delegate to the State Stu dent Legislature this year. In previous years, she has been ac tive in the WSG, the GuiUordian staff, the Social Committee, and the Spanish Club. Gail Ballweg and Robin Hol land are candidates for secretary to the Women's Student Govern ment, while Elizabeth Darnell and Susan Kohn are running for the treasurer's position. The candidates for WSG rep resentatives and the candidates for house presidents of each of Atwell To Run For Choir President On 'Yes-No' Ballot The Guilford College A Cappel la Choir has nominated Alan At well as choir president for next year. He will run on a 'yes-no' ballot. Alan is a rising senior, and he transferred from the Uni versity of North Carolina to Guil ford College this year. He was a member of the cast of "Annie Get Your Gun." He is a tenor in the choir. GUILFORD COLLEGE, N. C., MARCH 16, 1960 Nominations Of Candidates For Class Officers Announced Nominations for class officers for the senior, junior, and sopho more classes have been made. They are as follows: SENIOR CLASS Charles Little and Maurice Raiford are competing for presi dent of the senior class. Maurice Raiford has served as treasurer of the German Club, and as program chairman of the Westminster Fellowship. He is a chief marshall. Charles Little was an alterna tive representative for the Men's Sthdent Government in his fresh man year. Jim Chambers and Brodie Baker are seeking the vice-presi dency, and Anne Taylor and Jane Carroll are running for secretary of the class. Anise Lester, Jane Allen and Richard Paul are seek ing the treasurer's position. JUNIOR CLASS Tommy Bowers, Frank Bailey, and Phil Fulton are in the race i for the junior class presidency. Tommy Bowers hails from Thomasville, N. C. He has been active in campus activities and has been a member of the var sity football squad since he came to Guilford as a freshman. Frank Bailey, from Washing ton, D. C., makes his campus resi dence at Cox Hall. Phil Fulton is a psychology major from High Point, N. C. He has been an active member of the Social Committee and a mem ber of the Guilfordian staff. Jimmy Childress, Tommy Kemp, and Brooks Hayworth are seeking the vice - presidency, while Mary Greenwood and Lynne Hundley are competing for secretary. As candidates for treasurer there are Danny Moore, Wayne Wagoner, and Betsy Winsett. SOPHOMORE CLASS John Huffman and Howard Braxton have been nominated for the sophomore class presidency. John Huffman hails from Lex ington, Massachusetts. He makes his campus residence in Cox Hall and has been a cartoonist for the Guilfordian for the past year. Howard Braxton comes from Scotland Neck. They are: Richard Marks, Kenny Wat son, Miles Frost, James Long, and Bruce Stewart. Richard Marks is a rising sen ior. He has served as vice-presi dent of the Hillel organization. This issue of the Guttfordian is devoted almost soley to elec tions and to the candidates who are running for each position. Its purpose is to give each stu dent who will cast his vote to morrow an opportunity to know the candidates a little better. It is possible that there were some additional petitions for candi dates turned it to the Elections Committee after this issue had gone to press. However, the big gest number of candidates for office are presented here. When the final results are an nounced, barring ties and run offs, some very happy students will go home for spring vacation.
