Four Quakers Are AU-CC Three players from Guilford's outstanding offensive squad and one defender were selected recently to the 1970 Two Are All District Guilford crosscountry stars Keny Bailey and Bob Milan have both earned positions on the annual NAIA All-District 26 team for their performances on the five man Quaker squad during the past season, while three High Point harriers dominated the first team. Bailey, a junior from Greensboro who started his track career as a freshman at Guilford, placed on the first team, while Milan, a senior from Elkin, earned his spot on the second squad. Milan consistently placed in the top ten runners during the season, while Bailey secured an impressive victory in his first meet and continued his excellent performance with second and third place finishes behind scholarship runners from colleges with tough programs. Coach Allen Saunders guided the runners in their second year as a team, and led them to a third place finish in the district meet held in November. Sophomores Howard Looney and Jesse Conum turned in respectable performances throughout the year, and junior David Angel joined the team in mid-season and performed well as the fifth man. Both Milan and Bailey will be running in the long distance events when spring track rolls around, while Coach Saunders has a workout program planned for 1 he coming winter months. Guilford's record-breaking combination of Geoff Clark and John Blanks highlighted the Quaker selections and were joined by tackle David Mabry from the defense, and by another record-breaking, kicking specialist Mike Stewart. Clark is the only junior of the quartet, and the split end outdistanced all rivals as he pulled in 70 passes, shattering another Quaker's mark, set four years ago by Henry McKay. Lynn Dregger of Presbyterian had less than 40 passes, but was still the closest to Clark. Senior quarterback Blanks also carried away his share of records, as well as two statistical leads for the conference. He dominated both passing offense and total offense, with 185 yards per game in the first category and 195.2 yards in the second. Allen McNeill of Presbyterian, joining Dreger on the all-league group, was second to Blanks in passing, with close to 150 yards per game. Guilford's only representative from the defense, David Mabry, at 6-2, 226, anchored the Quaker front four throughout the season except when hampered by an ankle injury which kept him out for two games. Mike Stewart shattered and reset every school and conference field goal mark that existed, and thus was an easy choice for the 23rd spot on the elite team. He put eight field goals and sixteen extra points through the uprights during the ten game schedule.
