The Guilfordian would like to correct a statement by Elliot Good printed in his platform in February 15th's issue. He said there are no scholarships outside of Dana Scholarships which are based on academic ability. On the contrary, there are several scholarsips offered yearly which are not based on need. Among these are the English, Italian, and History Department's scholarships. TaVte a bre&VL after [ SENATE MINUTES, 2/23/77 The meeting opened with a moment of silence. Kim Chinn, Christie Fletcher and Frank Keegan were absent. A correction was made in last week's minutes. The de cision regarding campaign spending limits has not been made. Hugh Stohler presented two proposals to the Senate that would affect the budgeting of Student Activity Fees. The first proposal is based on a concern about the legal use of student fees and the prece dents set by funding organ izations that are politically and religiously oriented. The pro posal is that the Senate "adopt a clear policy which establishes that it will not fund student political organizations or religious-denominational or ganizations in the annual ' AILF *" I .... - -M t fl AB #ki:: .M*^m;;• W Mil# ;:; m :u , 1 w • 3[ ;:: - y HNBSST Chong Lee, vice-president/treasurer; |Amie Williams, president; Nicky McLemore, secretary. The Senate might, however, inform any such organizations that they may come to the Senate re questing special funding for any particular program, if that proposed program is clearly not of partisan or sectarian con tent." As there was no con sensus on whether or not to accept the proposal, Senators will discuss it with their con stituents and it will be pre sented again next week. The second part of Hugh's proposal was a recom mendation that the Senate re-affirm current budget pol icies that have not been fol lowed traditionally. Some of of the organizations have not adhered to these policies in the past few years. The budget practices in question were: 1. As Special Assistant to the President, he will continue responsibility for the Office of Financial Aid, and will direct both the Library and the Office of Admisions (Main Campus and Urban Center).
