WQFS trying to expand to 24 hours WQFS-91FM, the Guilford Col lege radio station, has again resumed operation after a series of setbacks. For nearly a month, WQFS was entirely non functioning with various pro blems. One problem was that the entire radio station had to be rewired. The production room is still non-functioning at present. WQFS is in need of "more finan cial support" for full operation. Thus, WQFS "the biggest organization" on the Guilford College campus, is at present not entirely pleased with its financial backing, but remains optimistic about the future. No longer operating on the 90.7 frequency, WQFS is now broad casting on the 91 frequency spot. Once hampered by merely 10 watts of broadcasting power, WQFS is now a 1,900 Watt station. This gives the station a broad casting range all over the triad area. The station currently receives "requests" from as far away as Reidsville and High Point. According to John Steely, WQFS has achieved one of its primary objectives, to "really represent Guilford outside Guilford." Other goals include the "constant presentation of music new music" and "continued action with other groups." WQFS broadcasts informative communiques about social activities occuring on campus and in the Greensboro area. The public, in the near future, will be able to listen to WQFS twenty four hours a day, twice weekly. The radio station is in need of about 10 to 15 new DJ's. A note from the station: A word to the wise before one at tempts to join the WQFS staff, one must be committed to work many hours in apprenticeship before ever going on the air. But, not to discourage those interested in joining the ranks with WQFS team, the ultimate concern of the station is still "to have a lot of fun" while under an "educational" objective. page 9
