of international events including
the 4th Annual International
Students' Day on December 7,
1985.
On Thursday evening,
December 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Boren
Lounge, Founders Hall, Mrs.
Marina Viets, wife of U.S. Am
bassador Richard Viets, former
ambassador to Jordan and pre
sent Ambassador-at-large, will
address the topic of "Life in the

Foreign Service." Ambassador
and Mrs. Viets have lived in
Tunisia, France, Japan, India,
Rumania, Israel, Tansania and
Jordan. Mrs. Viets has been
especially involved in the
cultures of the host countries
through her interests in the arts,
working with the handicapped
and teaching. She is fluent in
eight languages. As the wife of
the Ambassador it has been her
role to organize the social func
tions of the diplomatic communi
ty in the culture of the host coun
try. A native of Poland, Mrs.
Viets was a member of the Polish
underground army during World
War II and in later years was one
of the founders of the Family
Liaison Office of the State
Department. This event is spon
sored by the Office of the Interna
tional Student Advisor and the In
ternational Relations Club.
International Students' Day,
sponsored by the International
Relations Club and the Office of
the International Student Ad
visor, in cooperation with Inter
cultural Studies, Inter-Link
Language and Training Center,
the Foreign Language Depart
ment and the Center for Off-
Campus Education, will take
place on Saturday, December 7
from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in
Sternberger Auditorium. Over
twenty-five different countries
will have displays of art, crafts,
food, music and native dress. In
addition, throughout the after-

noon there will be performances
by the Pride of Carolina Clog
gers, the Native American Indian
Association, and the Cambodian
Musicians and Dancers of the
Cultural Heritage Center in
Greensboro. On Sunday after
noon at 2:00 p.m. in the Gallery of
Founders Hall the film
"Hakahiri" will be shown. This
1962 Japanese film depicts the
story of a 17th century Sumurai
warrior who is forced to commit
suicide. The event is sponsored
by Intercultural Studies.
All events are free and open to
the public except for the meal by
Epicure for the College.
