Women save his autographed underwear. Groupies run up to him and kiss him. Who is he? He's Marc Becker, the charismatic leader of that super rock group Inspector 12. "We used to be called The In fallible Flying Bofungus Brothers," the freshman rock star explained, "We were fallible and folks used to throw objects at us - hence the 'flying' part of the name." He has taken the Guilford Col lege community by storm and has become the first freshman to join the elite group profiled on the front page of The Guilfordian. His group's musical talents have improved to the point of shedding their old name for one honoring the famed underwear inspector. With a new agent rival ing the likes of Ken Kragen (Lionel Richie and Kenny Rogers' agent) the group is conti nuing on their calculated ascent up the rough ladder of the music business. Agent Kris Weik (who is available for beautiful women who want to be stars) told The Guilfordian, off the record, that The Who will open for Inspector 12. "However that's not set. We don't want to start a rumor." The son of a chiropracter (Foreigner went to him after visiting Becker while in town), Becker was raised in an upper class brick house in Roanoke, Virginia. The band has been together for three years and in cludes his protege and brother, 17 year old David. His younger brother even wants to follow his footsteps to the hallowed halls of Guilford College. Newly elected President Nathan Bohn said that his ex ecutive committee was hard at work in several areas. They are examining the bookstore, the feasibility of Founders Hall as a more active student center and a restructuring of the Senate com mittee system. "We are also trying to figure out a way to keep the people who run for Senator and don't win. We want them to get involved," Bohn explained. He went on to point out that anyone can get involved in the activities of the Senate. Take A Break... The five members of the band (all in high school except Becker) stepped up the seriousness of their calling when they made their first, and only, tape called "Life's A Party And You're Not Invited." "The tape is being carried by several record stores in Roanoke," Becker pointed out. "We are working on the Guilford Bookstore," added his super agent who is being paid the customary ten percent in the form of liquid assets. The turnout reportedly was higher than when it was held over two days last year. Art Appreciation p. 2 dards. On March 28 at around 5:0() P.M. Becker was jumped by a band of ruthless groupies ex cited by the occurance of his 19th birthday. They tied him up, blind folded him and threw him in the back of a two door car. "It was horrible," he relates still visibly shaken by the inci dent, "Every once in a while they would stop the car and spin me around." They took him to the sub stan dard eating establishment called McDonald's and forced him to eat a Happy Meal complete with a Ronald McDonald toothbrush surprise. Inspector 12's security force is still investigating the in cident. Bo Markley, President of the Guilford College Marc Becker Fan Club, came up to Becker and presented him with a card. Markley was reportedly concern ed about this recent example of irresponsible groupies behavior. Security was stepped up during the interview and Markley had some trouble in approaching Guilford's musical sex symbol. As part of its continued penetration into the music in dustry. Agent Weik recently had the tape sent to a video director in New York City. Weik has employed a large contingent of students to man the Inspector 12 phone banks to handle the flood of inquiries that have resulted. y W £/ twSmSL* - tlx W Newly elected Senate leaders photo by Luke Poole What song would Becker like to do in video form first ? '"Caribbean Sunset' because we'd have to do a location shoot," Becker replied sporting a slight tan from his rocker image building sessions at a tanning booth per Weik's orders. He was obviously proud of his tan and the use of such industry lingo as "location shoot." Becker has been busy discharg ing his campus responsibilities as well. His workload, which has arisen out of his Biology major status, kept hiir away from the recent Grammy Awards Show in Los Angeles. He feels that he must give back to society some of the wealth and success that he has gotten and, in his own way, refute the boozing rocker im age/stereotype by serving as a Bryan Senator and on the year book. Such activities have elicited lavish praise from recently profiled and retired Senate President Jim Freeman. "I'm very impressed," said Freeman as he toiled relentlessly on the Senate Auction. So where does this up and com ing extravaganza of musical wizardsy go next? "To play on Serendipity Friday complete with autographed underwear," said Becker.
