From this meeting came many useful ideas and proposals concerning drug counseling and prevention of use. Also, the forum served as a means for students to air their views on the subject. m GUILFORDIAN Staff Box Editor-in-Chief Tracy Russ News' Editor,. The Guilfordian is the student newspaper of Guilford Col lege, Greensboro, N.C. Mailing information can be obtained through the Guilfordian office. Submitted articles are welcome. The editor(s) reserves editorial license to Guilfor dian staff. It is now time for another forum. This time however, the topic should be the enforcement of the Guilford College alcohol policy. Recently, increas ing numbers of students have been frustrated by what they perceive as an unnecessarily restrictive and unfair "no-cups" policy of Union events and dances. The "no-cups" policy meant disaster for the last quad dance as turnout was dramatically reduced from previous dances. The fact that it was raining cannot be held fully ac countable for the low tur nout, since there were a number of off-campus par ties that were held out doors that night which were attended by a large percentage of the student body. The Virtue of a Full Trash Can Neary all of us take pride in the beauty of the Guilford campus. The grounds are handsome and many of the dorms and classrooms have been refurnished for our benefit this year. There are times, though, when I am appalled at some of the litter that is dropped out of dormitory windows or is scattered on the campus. I never thought an admonition in the academic community would come to this, but I urge you to use the trash containers on campus and in the dormitories (even, after parties)! A concern for student safety is another issue. Paramount to any enforce ment policy consideration must be the desire to pre vent people from driving drunk. While it is certainly an individual choice whether or not to drink and drive, the fact that some people will drive off campus so that they can drink must be taken into account. Carelessness in this regard is a subtle form of degradation of those who have to come after us and pick up. That includes not only the housekeeping staff, but many others who care. Please resolve to do your part not to make that burden greater on others. And finally, a thanks thanks to each person who already, and in the future, helps to keep this a place that we can be genuinely proud of for both its beauty and its spirit. As the old slogan goes: "Pitch In!" William R. Rogers , President 2 Effective enforcement of the alcohol policy will only be arrived at after careful consideration on the part of the administra tion and students. We must find a way to ensure Guilford College accoun tability to N.C. law and at the same time, deal con siderately with student concerns. It is time for another forum. Continued From Page 1 fund: hence the Quest Campaign. This is the third year of the Quest Campaign. The target figure is $10,100,000. This money channeled in several directions. Some, a total of $1,000,000, will create student scholar ships. About $1,350,000 will go to faculty support, research developments, and laboratory resources. A substantial improve ment will be made to the library. The cost: $4,900,000. New additions will include eight two story art exhibition galleries, illuminated by two sky lights; more reading room space; an
