World Economy and Inter
national Relations, said,
"Some of our sports are
not as competitive. So of
course football is a lot
more fun."
Yershow, who has
visited the United States
on three occasions and
speaks fluent English, said
"The conclusion is that
Americans are very nice
people to deal with. It's an
entirely different country,

The differences between
the two cultures were ap
parent throughout the
discussion, but response
was generally positive on
both sides.
Wyant saw the delega
tion as "a measure of how
things are changing" in
the Soviet Union. "I think
this delegation visiting
Guilford is proof of new
openness," she said.
Clark viewed the com
munication between peo
ple of the two nations as a
step towards a better
political relationship.
"We're not going to be
able to resolve world con
flicts without seeing other
people as human beings.
We can't do that if we don't
talk to them," she said.
Similarly, Janet
Cochran, an English pro
fessor who began planning
the Soviet visit last spring,
said, "The individual often
feels frustrated about his
or her ability to make a
difference in helping to br-
ing about peace in the
world. But increased
understanding of another
nation its culture and its
people is something that
each one of us can gain
and which can make a
great deal of difference."
