Food Service Survey: The Results Are In

Guilfordian Staff con
ducted an informal
3-question survey on Fri
day, Jan. 29th to find out
how students feel about
the new Marriott food ser
vice. The results were
positive overall, but Mar
riott officials say they are
still trying to improve
their service.
The questions were as
follows: (1) Are you more
satisfied or less satisfied
with the food service this
semester or last
semester? (see graph,
Overall Satisfaction): (2)
How would you rate the
taste and cooking of the
food this semester? (see
Quality); and (3) Overall,
is there an acceptable

The answers varied, as
shown in the accompany

the responses were
negative (see dark por

"It could be that
students are just being
nice to Marriott because
we're new. It's kind of a
honeymoon period." says
Tim Tyree, Guilford's new
Food Services Director.
The Student Senate Food
Committee has been doing
a survey of its own to find
out if people are satisfied
with Saturday brunch
times. They found out that
people wanted brunch to
start earlier. Tyree agreed
to start brunch at 11:00
a.m. instead of 11:30 a.m.
on Saturdays.

"The food committee
feels like it has made the
right choice" in choosing
Marriott, said co-chair
Cindy Henry.
Marriott officials are
planning to do a full-scale,
computerized statistical
survey in about a month,
with specific quesitons like
"Is the food the right
temperature?" and "Is
the food spicy enough?".
"We hope the survey
will give us some hard
data to compare with
other Colleges in the
region," said Tyree. No
specific date has been set
for the survey, however.
"We're trying to get
things going smoothly
first. We're still working
out a few things." said
Tyree.
Countdown To Serendipity

"Sernedipity is sort of
like controlled chaos. It's a
utopia— a kind of dreamy
state."

to be enthusiastic about

through April 17.
Richard and co

organization of the
festivities this year. The
partying is up to everyone

By definition, Serendipi

not know before." Seren

it falls about two weeks
before final exams. Lots of

According to Thatcher,
"Music is definitely the
highlight of Serendipity."
Three bands have already
been signed, with enough
musical variety to ap
pease almost any taste.
Keeping up with the
"quasi-tradition" of a Sun
day Reggae binge, "The
Elements" will perform
some tradition Rasla
tunes. "Innovation" will
play their own brand of
Funk/Pop/Top 40 music,
which Thatcher describes
as "high energy, a lot of
fun."
On Friday the increas
ingly popular "New Potato
Caboose" will keep us
rockin' through the day
with their assortment of
originals, Grateful Dead
covers, and various other
covers.
More bands are yet to be

There will also be a
