Sports A, Quakers End Winning Season With Disappointing Finish By Fiona Clem The Quakers ended their season and their winning streak by losing con secutive games to Catawba, Wingate and Belmont Abbey. Coach Jack Jensen ex pected to beat Catawba, a conference match-up, but the Quakers haven't beat them since 1980 and failed to change the pattern. ''Their record is the same as ours but Catawba played better against us then anyone this season," commented Jensen. "They are an experienced team. Their two best games of the year against us." In addition to 26 points, in the second half, Beckwith accounted for 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Tim Beckwith was nam ed Player of the Week (Feb. 7-13) in the Carolinas Conference. The last home game of the season was a con ference game against Wingate. Jensen was ex pecting a breather, "a one point victory," but Wingate surprised the Quakers with an eleven point defeat. The Quaker's regular season ended Saturday, February 27, with Belmont Abbey devastating them 73-59. Guilford's season record is 10-16 overall and 6-10 in the conference. The con ference tournament will be held Wednesday, March 2 at Catawba Col lege, starting at 9 p.m. The lacrosse season got underway with a scrim mage loss to UNC followed by a 10-7 win over the Atlanta Lacrosse Club.
