Cfte t&uiltortiian 2 NEWS LINE Art History slide talk to be presented Adele Wayman, associate professor of art at Guilford College, will present an art his tory slide talk cn Wednesday, Oct. 28 as part of her "Unusual Pairs of Artists" lecture series. It will be held in the Leak Room of Duke Memorial Building from 3:45 to s:lspm. The public is invited to attend free of charge. Wayman's presentation, en titled "FridaKahloand Vincent Van Gogh: Self-Portraits," will deal with the respective artists' lives and the struggles therein. Each of the artists was obsessed with self-portraits. Kahlo was a Mexican artist who 1 ived from 1907 to 1954. The Dutch artist Van Gogh, lived from 1853 to 1890. Shore hosts ghoulishness Shore hosted an evening of ghost stories on Oct. 29. Professor Janet Cochran and three of her English 151 stu dents, Mike Stone, Kadi Hodges and Amy Rosser, read original stories. About 40 people attended the meeting, which also in cluded a reading of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart." Film festival to be held The 1992 Latin American Film Festival will be held at Guilford during November. All films start at 7:30 in the Leak Room of Duke Memorial, and are free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by Guilford's Intercultural Stud ies Program and the Duke- UNC Program in Latin Ameri can Studies. Senator's Notebook Senate Secretary Brian Sugioka The Community Senate held meet ings on Oct. 14 and on Oct. 28. Both meetings dealt with a num ber of topics. Here are a few: Senate President Jen Hill announced that Ad. Council had approved a policy permitting quarter kegs at private parties. Last year Ad Council re jected the keg policy submitted by Senate. The Student Services Committee in conjunction with Marriott has de veloped a third meal plan for next semester. SSC chair Caroline Biber reported that the new plan would be 7 meals a week in the cafeteria and $lO3 per semester in munchie money. SSC is also planning to have a survey to gather information about the number of vegetarians on cam pus with the aim of getting more and better vegetarian food in the Cafete :ia and Underground. Community Relations Committee is planning a racism workshop in De cember and a staff appreciation day for all support Services staff including maintenance, grounds, Marriott, house keeping, mailroom, and bookstore employees. The by-laws of the Community Relations Committee were approved followed by the official approval of R.J. Nickels and Bridget VandeWalle as the co-chairs of the committee. Another issue discussed at the Oc tober 14 meeting was a special request by a group of Guilford geology majors traveling to Puerto Rico during Fall Break to participate in a NASA pro gram. Friday, November 13 pm 4:00 Grief Process and Sup port Group expedition, Geology Professor Charles Almy, there are no funds to cover approximately $2,516 in pro jected costs for the trip. The Geology Department will tem porarily cover the shortfall, enabling the students to go on the trip, which left on Saturday, October 18, but students will be expected to pay back the funds loaned to them. The special request was for funds to help them pay back the geology department. The students going on the trip were asked if they would be willing to undertake heavy fundraising efforts when they got back from the trip, to which they replied that they would. Senate then agreed in principle to give some money to the group, but specific amounts were not decided on.
