)e §uil(orlrian 8 Guilford student helps Montagnards move in Amy Rosser Staff Writer What does it take to move across the world and into a society that speaks a different language from your own, has different customs than those that you are used to, and in every way seems foreign and strange? As the Montagnards have discovered, the answer is help. Through the Bonner Scholar pro gram and Lutheran Family Ser- vices, Amy Jones, a first-year stu dent at Guilford College, has of fered her assistance to these recent refugees. She helps to prepare the housing for the refugees which usu ally involves scrubbing floors, put ting up curtains and making sure that the heat and electricity are working properly. When they ar rive, Amy helps them get grocer ies, social security cards, green cards, and the like. For instance, one could imagine the confusion they experi enced at seeing Americans loading trees onto trucks to take into their homes for Christmas after having made their homes in trees.
