September 30,1994 THE POLITICAL GREEK? The Guilfordian's soap opera plot just gets thicker and thicker. It appears as if the leader of the local chapter of WAGAW (Women Are Greeks As Well) has focused her group's next attack on our little contest. Amy Leacy, the leader of this political giant, has fought news papers across the country pro claiming equal Greekdom for women. "No more will Guilford Col lege live under the blanket of a male-dominated hierarchy of Greeks," says Leacy, who sent a strong statement to the Guilford community by posting an 11-2 record in the last contest This is the second consecutive week that a woman has won the prize. And the trend does not seem to be ending as Heather Glissen, last week's winner, came ■ Entry Deadline: Sunday at Noon at the Info Desk Name ■ Address Phone ' II Circle the Winner ■ Atlanta @ LA Rams NY Giants @ New Orleans ■ Buffalo @ Chicago NY Jets @ Cleveland ■ Dallas @ Washington Philadelphia @ San Francisco J Detroit @ Tampa Bay Seattle @ Indianapolis ■ Minnesota @ Arizona Miami @ Cincinnati ■ Green Bay @ New England J Pick the Score (Tie-breaker) ■ Houston @ Pittsburgh O-UOTE OF C/ 3 FOOTBALL GUYS — M H THEY'RE WIMPY! So the Guilfordian's own ver sion of the battle of the sexes is underway, and the women have struck the First blow. Will the men use this week's games to mount a counter-attack? We'll just have to wait and see. Ia m ..1 s&ports Guilfordian Top 20 Joe Wallace Sports Editor QUAKERS CRACK TOP 10! QUAKERS CRACK TOP 10! Those are the best words to de scribe the euphoria of this week's Guilfordian Top 20. With Guilford's 22-3 victory over Chowan two weeks ago, and then their 24-21 win over Old Do minion Athletic Conference rival Hampden-Sydney, the Quakers climbed 5 positions in the writers' poll to claim 10th place. As for the rest of the polls, the last two weeks have been unusual in the amount of losses to the top 20. Washington State's victory over Miami was enough to allow the team to appear on the poll for the first time this season. The writers placed Washington State 16th on their poll while the players ranked them at 15th. Each with an idle week and a win, Florida and Nebraska re mained atop their respective polls while Penn State made its move. Due to a loss by Michigan, the Nittany Lions jumped two posi tions to 3rd in the players' poll; they were even able to overtake Nebraska for 2nd in the writers' poll. North Carolina, after losing to higher-ranked Florida State, fell nine spots to 20th in the writers' poll. The Tar Heels completely dropped off the players' poll, be ing "replaced" by fellow Atlantic Coast Conference school, NC State, who entered at no. 20. But the biggest story of the week is the Quakers' ascent into the writers' poll top 10. Hopefully they can keep up the good work and move even higher. Good luck Guilford! Top Writers' Poll 10 1.
