Guilford's Sean Ross blocked a 39- yard field goal attempt by Salisbury State's Brad Wheedleton as time ran out to preserve the win. Bryant's field goal concluded a 27-point fourth quarter for the Quakers, who came back from a 28-7 halftime deficit. The Quak ers held Salisbury State scoreless in the third, setting up the fourth quarter comeback. Guilford used touchdown passes of 49 and 27 yards from Santes Beatty, along with a 10-yard by David Heggie and two field goals from Bryant. Trailing 37-29 with 3:08 left, Beatty hit Junior Lord with a 27- yard TD pass to pull the Quakers to within 37-37. After Guilford was hit with a 15-yard unsports manlike penalty following the score, Beatty found Lord for an 18- yard conversion pass to knot the game at 37-37. Following the kickoff, the ODAC's All-Conference Teams Heggie Named Player o Salem, VA.—Guilford tailback David Heggie, who led the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in rushing and ranks 22nd in the NCAA, has been named the ODAC Player of the Year by a vote of the league's coaches. Heggie, a freshman from Apex, NC, recorded 1,207 yards and eight touchdowns on 210 carries in 1994 and registered two games with over 200 yards rushing. Heggie's 1,207 yards rank as the second-best rushing performance in a season by a Guilford player and just missed setting the Quaker's single-season rushing record by 24 yards. Heggie be comes the second consecutive run ning back to receive the ODAC honor after Bridgewater's Ronnie Howard did it in 1993. Emory & Henry head coach Lou Wacker, who led his team to an 8- 2 record and a 4-1 league-champi onship mark, was named ODAC Coach of the Year. This is the third time Wacker has received the award from his peers. The 1958 graduate of the University of Rich mond, Wacker led the Wasps to their sixth conference champion ship and first since 1992. Quaker defense held Salisbury State on its next drive, stopping a fourth-and-one play and taking over the Sea Gulls' 40-yard line. Guilford moved it to the 17, set ting up Bryant's winning field goal. The Quakers survived a short kick off and Salisbury State drive down to the Guilford 23, and Ross broke through the line to block Wheedleton's 39-yard field goal attempt as time ran out. Beatty completed 15 of 29 passes for 218 yards and three TD's, while Heggie rushed for 120 yards and two TD's. Junior Lord caught nine Beatty passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns. The Quakers had 470 yards of total of fense and 28 first downs. Byron Pugh had 197 yards and three TD's for the Sea Gulls, while Marc Thomas completed 20 of 34 for 174 yards. Salisbury State hammered Guilford for 556 total yards and 29 first downs. Guilford completes the season at 8-2, only the fourth time that the Quaker's have finished with eight wins. The Sea Gulls finish the year at 2-7.
