Review of Julian Cope's latest album, 20 Mothers On the cover of Julian Cope's newest opus are no fewer than 20 Mothers , including his mother and wife, now the mother of Julian's two daughters. This may seem quite a change from the man who once wrote a song called "Out of My Mind on Dope And Speed." No doubt 20 Mothers has a matu rity not as apparent in his previ ous works. The good news is that Julian is ready as ever to rage against the greedheads. He takes droll aim at certain British officials as well as environment rapists. The bad news is that the music and lyrics aren't as distinctly "Julian Copish." A less catchy al bum than Peggy Suicide, it is not without its gems; "Queen/Mother" and "By the Light of the Silbury Moon" are standouts. Perhaps what Cope is trying to do with 20 Mothers is give us hope for the future, point out ways for ward. As we approach the end of the millennium, Julian Cope's vi sion is starting to make more sense.
