c Ultimate' unlike any otHer sport at Guilford ROB MIRCHIN sports editor Guilford's 4th-ranked Ultimate Frisbee team, "Biohazard," is unique among Guilford athletic teams. It is a club team that is ranked 4th among North Carolina colleges. Junior team member Corydon Woodard describes the sport as dynamic and fun. He says, "It's very intense. It pushes you without being competitive." Ultimate requires its players to take on different roles than in other sports. One team advances the disc by passing while the other team tries to stop the offensive attack by intercepting or grounding the disc. There is not as big a sideline as. in football. An entire team plays of fense one second and defense the next second. There is no time to make substitutions. Players are also expected to call penalties committed against them, and have a chance to contest pen alties called on them. An uncon tested penalty is more serious than a contested penalty. Woodard said, "A lot of people don't realize that it is a highly structured game with plays, strat egies, and positions." He also mentioned that small colleges like Guilford have a Fearless Forecast - Grudge Week ADAM LUCAS staff writer We had a relatively bad week last time, but we will use the tra ditional end-of-season rivalry games to get back on track. In referring to the floating ability of the disc, he said that there is "a lot more grace to it" and that it is "beautiful to watch". Clemson at South Carolina: The Clemson program seems to have turned the corner under Tommy West. They also have the motiva tion of a 33-7 whipping inflicted on them by the Gamecocks last year. Clemson 20, South Carolina 13. Colorado at K-State: Colorado has gone downhill fast after los ing QB Koy Detmer. The Wildcats were impressive in shelling Okla homa. Their only victory over a decent team. I'll go with K-State, 28-27. Vandy at Florida: The Gators' final tuneup before their matchup in the Swamp with FSU. Danny Weurffel will probably see very little action, as Florida wins by 35. Jordan's return wrongfully forgotten AMY BROACH staff writer "Who's back?" It's not Ryne Sandberg. It's not Mike Tyson. It's not even Elvis rising from the dead. It's Michael Jordan, and no one seems to care! Yes, he did come back late last season. It was nine months ago, but why have we forgotten about the NBA's Super man so quickly? The greatest man to ever play basketball is back in full force. He had a full summer to train, to shoot, to lift, and to practice all the magic that he possessed before he left. And, all people can talk about is how Dennis Rodman is going to impact the Bulls. So what? Who is Dennis Rodman? Is he the man that dazzled the entire country with his dream shot in the 1982 NCAA Championship as a freshman? Was he the 1985 NBA rookie of the year? Did he lead his team to a "three peat" in the early nineties? Has he been a candidate for Player of the Year every year he has been in the NBA? (The only years he did not win were because of the presence and good-bye years of icons like Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.) No, it was Michael Jordan! The basketball world cried itself to sleep the day Jordan left. Now that he is back in top form, all we can say is "I wonder who is going to win the title?" I will tell you who is going to win the title. It's going to be the team led by the greatest player ever to grace the court with his razzle dazzle moves and breath-taking dunks. The Bulls are going to be the World Champions led by Michael Jordan and all of his magic. So, mark it on your calen dars for late June. Don't forget! Rob Mirchin/Guilfordian 13
