Dan Poteet came to speak to
Senate on November 29, 1995 to
discuss the resignation of Chief
Financial Officer Carlos Holder.
Poteet informed Senate that Holder
did in fact resign and was not fired.
The resignation was said to "im
ply nothing" about the state of
Guilford's finances. Dick Coe will
be the interim CFO.
Dave Fleig reported that the
Budget Committee was to meet
with Residential Life to discuss the
role of Hall Councils. The current
system is apparently not working
effectively, as there is dissatisfac
tion with use of money, events, and

As the holiday season ap
proaches, Security reminds all stu
dents to keep their rooms and ve
hicles locked when not occupied.
Secure your valuables and do not
leave them unattended. Crime pre
vention starts with you. Do not al
low yourself to become the victim
of a theft. The following is a list
of all reported thefts for the last
month.
November 4 • Larceny
A student reported that her plan
ner containing $15.00 in cash and
a SIOO money order was taken
from the men's dressing room at
Dana Auditorium. She told secu
rity that there were several people
in the room when she left her plan
ner there. There are no suspects in
the case.
November 16* Larceny
At 11:30 pm a student placed his
backpack on top of a bookshelf
near the first floor men's bathroom
at Founders. The backpack con
tained a CD player, 5 library
books, computer disks, his student
ID and drivers license. The bag

A student in Bryan left his room
to take a friend to the hospital. The
student left in a hurry and did not
lock his room. While he was gone

.stolen. Witnesses report that a
white male with fair skin and long
red hair was seen in the victim's
room at the time of the larceny.
November 18 • Larceny
At 2:05 am, while on routine pa
trol, Security Officers Alvin
Constantine and Micheal Francis
observed a maroon Mazda aban
doned in the intersection of Bryan
and Bauman. The vehicle had been
reported stolen at 2:03 am. The
owner of the vehicle told Security
that the vehicle had been parked
in the far end of the Binford park
ing lot. The keys had been left in
the ignition. The tape deck had
been ripped out and left in the
first paragraph of the Statement to
"Guilford is an independent
Quaker liberal arts C011ege...."
There was a general feeling of
comfort with the change among
Senators. The actual proposal will
be brought in and discussed more
thoroughly at the next meeting.
Norm Gibbs, Director of Infor
mation Technology, spoke to Sen
ate about computing on campus.
Gibbs remarked that he would like
to improve communication among
students and the Computer Ser
vices staff. Gibbs suggested the
formation of a focus group as a
way to get feedback from students.
Avoid jogging or biking alone.
If you must go by yourself, stay
clear of isolated or poorly lighted
areas.
Don't bring attention to yourself
by flashing large amounts of cash
or other valuable objects.

are rapidly taking shape
The college's Martin Luther
King, Jr. Celebration Series is rap
idly taking shape with the help of
a planning group consisting of stu
dents, faculty, staff and adminis
trators.
The series will open on Thurs
day, January 11 at 7:30 p.m. in
Sternberger with kickoff speaker
Dr. William Turner, Assistant Pro
fessor of Black Church Studies and
Research at Duke University. He
will speak about the life of Martin
Luther King in the context of
church history.
On Monday, January 15, activi
ties have been organized for the
entire day, starting with morning
