Guilford prepares for McNemar's day AMY BROACH business manager "The best possible celebration of the col lege." That's what Gordon Soenksen, vice president of institutional advancement, her alded the upcoming inauguration of Don McNemar on Friday, October 11 to be. The inauguration is intended to celebrate Guilford College, the traditions of the col lege, and the best decision the trustees of the college ever made," said Soenksen. The decision, announced last year, made Donald W. McNemar the seventh president of Guilford College. Don and his wife, Britta, who came to the college from Phillips Andover Academy, were central in the plan ning of the inauguration. "Their dream for the inauguration was to celebrate the col lege, while keeping with its traditions, and to be totally inclusive," noted Soenkson. And inclusive the inauguration will be. The Inauguration Board, which started last spring, "has made valiant efforts to be clear with all aspects of the inner and outer com munities that (Guilford College) interacts with that everyone is welcome and wanted during this inauguration," said Kelly Davis. Falling on the first day of Homecoming weekend, the event promises to include alumni as well. "This date offered (the Board) the opportunity to invite alumni from all of the classes up to the Class of 2000 to be present in the march of delegates during THE COMMUNITY RECORD vital issues and events in community senate INAUGURATION UPDATE Gordon Soenksen, vice-president of institutional advancement, spoke briefly with the Senate members to relay infor mation about the upcoming inaugura tion. Soenksen urged all students to at tend, and reminded them that help is still needed. Classes will be cancelled on Friday afternoon to enable faculty and students to join in the festivities. SPORTS TRAINERS CLUB COMPUTER MONEY GRANTED Senate approved the allocation of $1616.86 for the Sports Trainers Club to purchase a computer, monitor, and printer to use with training, maintain ing athlete files and preparing for sports medicine exams.
