After being awarded the Sidney H. Tomlinson, Jr. Research Grant, the Board of Visitors also be stowed upon her the 1997 Excellence in Teaching Award. Spencer Hamrick 'BO, who pre sented the award, called Clark, "The embodiment of Guilford's dedication to social justice and social change." Curt Bradbrook was given the Board of Visitor's 1997 Community Service Award for his work in the Business Office. "I thank you," said Bradbrook upon being receiving his award, "and accept this on behalf of everyone in the Business Office. They're a great group who make it fun to come to work." In addition to Clark, several stu dents received more than one award. Santes Beatty received the first ever Charles C. Hendricks Scholarship (for the '96-'97 school year) and the Board of Visitors Senior Excellence Award. Brittany Boden also received the mm mnwi iimar Guilford College Department of Security and Safety's report to the community 3-27-97 5:33 pm A 2911 call was made by the Information Desk requesting Security in Sternburger Auditorium. Upon arrival, Security found a student had been injured after a fall while constructing a stage. The student suffered several abrasions to their back and was treated by Security Ihe student was also examined by a student athletic trainer. 3-27-97 11:44 pm Security responded to a 2911 call from Bryan Hall resident who reported that a student had put their hand through some glass and was severely injured. The student was extremely drunk and refused to be transported to the hospital, or any medical attention from Security. Security requested that Greensboro Police be contacted because the student was severely injured, extremely drunk, and was in need of medical attention. Upon the arrival of Greensboro Police the injured student agreed to let friends drive them to the hospital. 3-28-97 1:08 pm Security responded to a call from a student reporting that their car April 11,1997 Senior Excellence Award. In addi tion, Boden was given the Algie I. And EvaM. Newlin Social Concerns Award along with Sara Walls. Max Carter also presented Walls with the Judith W. Harvey Award in Campus Ministry. Laura Davis and Jeremy Evans both received the Harvey Award in Campus Ministry, too. Susan Allen received the Hendricks Scholarship for 4 97-'9B. Lada Dimitrova and Erin Seltzer were recognized with the George I. Alden Scholarship. Linda Golden received the Eugene S. Hire Achieve ment Award for high achievement under adverse conditions. Jennie Montgomery '55 pre sented Marija Preimats with the Clyde A. Milner Academic Excel lence Award and Cory Birdwhistell with the E. Gamess Purdom Schol arship Award. Choir Director Ed Lowe awarded Laura Jones the Ezra H. F. Weis Award for Leadership in Choir in addition to leading the choir in stir ring renditions of "Precious Lord, Take My Hand," and "Amazing Grace." President Don McNemar closed had been vandalized in the Student Apartment Parking Lot. Security found the car with two slashed tired and key marks down each side of the vehicle. Security reports that there are suspects in the case, and the incident is still under investigation. 3-28-97 4:00 pm During a check of Bryan Hall a Security Officer found a one gallon container of gasoline sitting on the ground outside of a suite. Security confiscated the gasoline. 3-29-97 8:48 pm Security responded to a report of a suspicious individual on the 3rd floor of Milner. Residents of Milner stated the suspect was knocking on doors and bothering people. A description was obtained of the suspect, and positively identified as a former campus worker. Security Officers did a check of the entire building and areas around Milner, but did not locate the suspect Security reports that a trespass warning will be issued, banning the individual from the campus. 3-30-97 2:28 am Security Officers were dis patched to a fight at Dana 4. the Convocation by declaring, "We honor not only the recipients who have come forward to accept their awards. We also honor the spirit of the community who encourages them." Students recognized for awards in various departments were: Jen Horton, Carolyn Llewellyn, Thaddeus Rombauer, Jessica White, Charles Teft, Hope Donkin, Andrew Peachey, Gretchen Richards, Marija Preimats, Amy Broach, Lada Dimitrova, Amanda Leinonen- DuFresne, Rebecca Rostand, Kevin Rice, Sarah Weber, Nicole Nelson, Anna Lena Phillips, Lincoln Hancock, Ryan O'Dell, Amanda Phillips, Katherine Haddox, John Dammann, Eric Chase, Jennifer Crane, Chris Carter, Tom DeMayo, Tim Kline, Jennifer Dinger, Robin Hochel, Eleanor Andrews, Amy Hogue, Ronnie Phillips, Rodney Johnson, Laura Davis, Shannon Glosson, Amy Shores, Jen Skinner, Kevin Moore, Robin Lichtenwalner, Stacy Norris, Sara Anderson, Nick Remmes, John Shelton, Brittany Boden, Erin Randolph, Bryan Heide, Laura Jensen, Cameron Richardson, Elizabeth McCrann, Amy Johnson, and Elizabeth Parker. Upon arrival, officers observed a former Guilford College stu dent, who has been issued a tres pass warning against coming onto campus, involved in the fight. The individual allegedly assaulted at least two students and fled the area upon Security's arrival. Officers chased the in dividual to a nearby residence hall where they cornered the sus pect before he could gain access to the building. Security called Greensboro Police to request emergency response to assist Security in detaining the suspect At that time the suspect allegedly assaulted one of the Security Offic ers by punching them in the face. Security then detained the suspect until Greensboro Police arrived. When they arrived Greensboro Po lice Officers placed the suspect un der arrest. Several warrants have been issued and served against the saspect who is currently in the cus tody of the Guilford County Jail un der a $17,500 bond. Security wishes to thank the students who assisted in this situation for their cooperation in locating and detaining the suspect
