THE GUILFORDIAN NOVEMBER 13, 1998 Putting pizza to the test By Sara Johnson STAFF WRITER Oh, Little Caesar's how I love you. Speedy service, delicious pizza, cheap prices, cool market ing, cute delivery guys: you are my favorite. Our mission: to seek the best pizza de livery for Guilford stu dents. I ordered from three of the most popu lar pizza joints in town at the same time to test their delivery skills: Little Caesar's, Papa John's, and Pie Works. Little Caesar's wowed us by delivering our pizza in 19 minutes on a Friday night! The pizza was hot, but we didn't have to wait 20 minutes for it to cool down. I feel the crust on this almost perfect pizza should be thicker. Sa rah Weissberg said, "Little Caesar's is good but there's not enough cheese on it." I recommend the "pizza, pizza deal" that includes two medium pizzas with three toppings for only 10.99. If you like toppings, this is a great deal. WQFS profile: "Everybody Hates Us" By Paul Binford STAFF WRITER If you have never tried wak ing up to the soothing sounds of The Exploited .. .well, you really should. At Guilford, it keeps get ting easier to start out your day with a loud dose of punk. The ra dio show "Everybody Hates Us," with its hosts Adam Thorn and James Fishwick has been on the air for about a month from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. each Tuesday. Since then, things have changed. I swear they've switched to a new sauce and use too much of it. When I tried to break off a piece of pizza, a tidal wave of cheese and sauce slipped off the crust. Papa John's, although no longer my favorite, still has my favorite crust. It's like a fat pillow of dough, a delicious oriented but can vary widely, from bands such as the Buzzcocks to They Might Be Gi ants all in the space of two hours—hours that are early in the morning. But, as first-year student Thorn says, "Everybody needs a little punk to wake up to." Finding music that suits their tastes and does not offend the FCC is a constant challenge. In fact, Fishwick (also a fresh man) describes it as more of a quest. Their tastes tend to run in a more classical punk vein, Features halo around a not-so-good- pizza. Papa John's should sell its crust and garlic butter as a meal. I would buy it. The last to arrive was the scorned medium pepperoni Pie Works pizza. Pie Works has a reputation for its strange, original pizzas. If you like weird pizza, then go ahead. Pie Works is more pricey than most. We ordered a medium pizza with one topping that was $9.75 without tip. The estimated time of arrival was said to be an hour to an hour and fif teen minutes. I was already full from Little Caesar's and Papa John's and was waiting to enjoy my Friday night when Pie Works finally showed up after an hour and a half. Adrienne Owens who sampled the Pie Works pizza, said, "It's incredibly greasy. They also make a conscious effort to "stretch the boundaries of the term punk," as Fishwick said. "If that doesn't make sense ,it's because I am really tired," he continued. Every morning at 9:00 a.m. they play a song by pop-punk band Screeching Weasel. Screeching Weasel is one of my really taste like much." We do not approve of Pie Works delivery. Their "Sam pler" in the restaurant is quite good. You pay $6.95 and get all you can eat of a variety of pizza. Becca Baird said, "It's good because you get bread sticks, a salad, a coke, and have a selection of maybe 8 or 9 pizzas and a desert pizza. And you get as much pizza as you want. It rules. It's one of my favorite restaurants in Greens boro." Most people have strong pizza preferences. Thin, thick, stuffed, NY Style, tons of topping, no top pings, one topping, sweet sauce, lots of sauce, some sauce, hot, cold, with Coke, with beer, for break fast, at 2:00 am: everyone wants something different. I hope the in formation above will help guide you to the pizza of your dreams. favorite bands, so listen to their damn show. WQFS already has a few similar, punk-formatted shows, but these DJs hope that they will fill a niche. Maybe there is an early-morning punk show niche, who knows? They claim to al ready have at least four listen ers, including one of Thorn's cousins. So listen to Everybody Hates Us. In fact, call them and request a song; if it is vaguely punk, they will play it. 7
