McNemar announces
departmental changes
lege every day, and
this one is one of the
big ones.
A couple weeks
ago, President Don
McNemar sent out a
letter to students
that stated that
there would be some
more changes made
to the curriculum.
According to the let
ter, the music major
will be eliminated,
the certification of
sports trainers will
be discontinued, and
the education stud
ies department will
have three tenure
tracked professors
instead of the previ-
ous four.
Yet, most stu-
dents had no clue that this was going on.
The letter was also somewhat vague to
Single ticket uncontested
in bid for Union office
From Staff Reports
This year's Union elections mark a re
turn to normal.
As in year past, there is only one ticket
running for next year's
Union top seats. Sara
Hahnel, Kemba
Bloodworth, Michelle
Simmons, and Kirsten
James are running for
President, Vice Presi
dent, Treasurer, and
Secretary, respectively.
Running uncontested
doesn't seem to bother
them, though. "If somebody else was really
interested, they would've formed a ticket,"
said Bloodworth.
Dawn Watkins, Director of Student
Activities, is very excited about the ticket.
She is looking forward to working with them.

strong chairs. We're going to try to get the

entire group working together rather than
individually next year," said Watkms.
Even though the ticket formed at the
last minute (the petition deadline was ex
tended in order to get the ticket together),
the four are excited about
working together more.
Hahnel served as Union's
vice president this
spring after returning
from Guadalajara.
Bloodworth was the
Spirit Activities chair.
Simmons and James
have both attended
Union events but have
not been members of Union.
"We want to have a more diverse range
of activities," said Bloodworth. "We want to
increase the amount of rap, reggae, and
latino bands we bring to campus. There's
also been a decrease in the amount of movie
tickets and outings and we want to increase
those." Bold plans for a new year.
of this plan, many are
curious as to where
this decision will
leave Guilford stu
dents.
"The end result
was the best decision
to serve Guilford stu

McNemar. Guilford
students should not
worry too much
about completing
programs that they
are already in,
though, because, ac
