Busy weekend for the
admission office and
prospective students
From Staff Reports
Events planned by the office
of admission for this weekend
should draw well over a hundred
prospective students to campus.
The annual Honors weekend and
the recently started Student of
Color weekend will both be held.
Saturday will be the busiest
day, as both groups of students
will arrive and check in before
heading to an assortment of
planned activities.
Though Honors weekend is
officially only one day, many of
the students will arrive Friday
night and stay with a student
host.
Saturday is when the real fun
is set to begin as honors students
and students of color will go on
campus tours, sample some of the
cafeteria's delicacies, and get a
taste of what Guilford College is
all about.
Potential Honors students
are each required to do a series
of interviews and will have those
scheduled throughout the day.
In addition, Jeff Jeske will
do a presentation meant to give
students a sampling of an honors
course, and seniors honors stu-

evening of March 26, focusing par
ticularly on racism and how we
can be anti-racist in community
service. In his keynote address
on March 27, he will engage his
audience in his spiritual journey
and how his challenge to racism
and sexism have affected his jour
ney.

projects.
There will also be an infor

to give the potential Guilfordians
answers to questions about the
honors program at Guilford. The
panel will include several
Guilford students who are cur
rently in the honors program as
well as members of the adminis

The activities planned for
Student of Color weekend offers
a student-led activity entitled
"How to Succeed on a Majority
Campus!" and a comedy show on
Saturday evening. Those stu
dents have Saturday free to par
ticipate in the planned Union
events, an acoustic bonfire and
capture the flag by the lake.
On Sunday, there will be op
portunities for worship, either on
the college campus or at a church
in the community. A student
panel and dinner in the Walnut
Room complete the evening.
The weekend extends into
Monday, when students will be
invited to attend morning classes
before attending a closing lunch
and heading back to their respec

ally.
The events planned for the
conference will highlight some of
the deepest struggles that Quak
ers and others must undergo as
we attempt to work against dis
crimination in our society and to
work through some of the disso
nance that exists within our own
communities.
The entire week will be open
to Guilford College students,
staff, and faculty as well as any
who wish to participate from off
campus.
We look forward to exten
sive community participation at
all of the events of the week.
