2 Interview with Don McNemar, part 3 Editor*s Note: This is the concluding third segment of an in terview with Don McNemar. The first section was in the April 9th edition of The Guilfordian and raised questions about future outsourcing at Guilford. Again, answers are summarized. We have con tracts with software companies and there are lots of ways in which we are already working with groups outside the school. If the question is 'Are we going to outsource the buildings and ground staff?' we are not cur rently considering that at present. We are looking at options in working with other colleges, News things that would be mutually beneficial. The library is already in collaboration with four other colleges with a common network and server. We are looking at possibili ties in making mutually benefi cial relationships. We are not go- ing to create a partner ship that is not to our benefit. Me: I understand that we are talking about specu lation and possibili ties, but are there any specific pos sibilities that are solid enough to discuss? McNem ar: We will study the bookstore further and I will make a decision on that in the future. students and YMCA members. I have talked with the man- We are also looking at re ager of the bookstore. It will also have a 150-seat auditorium, avail able for lectures or concerts. We will then look at the fit ness center that we are develop- year to support current opera tions through the annual fund, to increase endowments for schol arships and faculty support and the three construction projects I Please see Interview, page 3 ing jointly with the YMCA. We will likely plan and build it con nected to the present gymnasium in addition to updating and remod eling the older facili ties. This fit ness center will provide facilities for student ath letes and will create new fitness equipment and social space for all what we are looking at in terms of con struction over the next five years. We are now raising funds for these projects. We are looking at launching a major capital campaign next
