Don By Jacob Noble STAFF WRITER On March 29th, Dr. Richard Kania, the chair of the Justice and Policy Studies department who has worked at Guilford for 16 years and was granted tenure in 1987, formally resigned from his position and informed the school that he has ac cepted a posi tion with the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. A couple of his reasons for leaving were the college's failure to propose a counter-offer and what he de scribed as lack of appreciation shown towards the JPS depart ment, one of the most popular de partments judging by the num bers of majors. Last year, Kania held the prestigious position of Fulbright Professor at the Central Euro pean University, well-known university in Poland. Kania leaves the depart ment with concerns about the at titudes that some departments have towards JPS. Critics of the JPS department and supporters of a strict liberal arts curriculum often accuse the JPS department Kania to leave Guilford Last Year, Kania held the prestigious position of was a Fulbright Professor at the Central European University.
