semester.
Herb Poole passes away

"For me, there were two
things I always wanted to do
other than lead a normal life and
have a family: one was to learn
how to play the bagpipes and the
other was to learn how to fly an
airplane."
So spoke Dr. Herbert Poole,
former director of Guilford
College's library, in 1985. He did
both, among many other dizzy
ing accomplishments that pep
pered a life rich in service.

Nov. 17th. He leaves behind lega
cies both intangible and tangible
in the hundreds of people whose
lives he has influenced and at
Guilford's Hege library, which
grew into a model for small col
leges under his leadership.
A native of North Carolina,
Poole's career began in the U.S.
army, where he served as a Rus
sian interpreter in Germany
during the 19505. He joined the
staff of Guilford's library in 1965,

At the Senate meeting on
Wednesday, the Academic Affairs
Committee nominated senior
Jenny Craigie for the position of
vice-president.
This will be the second time
that Craigie, four-year member of
Senate and current Steering Com
mittee member, will have served
in an executive position —she
served as secretary last year when
the elected secretary went to CCE
status —but she has yet to actually
run for office.

before and Dodson expressed a
deep confidence in Craigie's expe
rience and ability.
