Page 12 Think David Thomas STAFF WRITER She fears that her phone is tapped. She feels as if she is be ing watched everywhere she goes. For what? My sister is living in fear in her own country. I fear for her safety. Every time she gets in her car. goes to the store, or goes to pray, I am fearful. Ignorance breeds violence. Over the past three years my sister has tried to figure out a lot of things in her life. The most important being trying to figure out a way to live. By this, of course. I mean organized re ligion. In her search she found and became immersed in the Nation of Islam. My parents questioned her decision. My grandmother did not understand her motivation. And then there was me, against religion because no one needs to be told how to live. (Thank you Daniel Quinn). Islam is not just a religion, it is a complete way of life and one fifth of the world's popula tion reads and follows the Quran. My sister is new to the re ligion - about a year or so. She wears the headdress and has read the Quran twice already. She has become completely en thralled in Muhammad and Al lah. My sister and I have had our differences in the past. We Corrections to the Review of Counting Crows David Butler Gout Wmtoi Editor. I enjoyed reading The Guilfordian's review on the Counting Crows concert at Davidson on Sept. 3.2001. Be ing a huge C.Crows fan myself and having been in attendance that night as well as 3 nights before at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach SC., I feel I need to point out some rather glaring inaccuracies. 1. The photo labeled "The bassist jamming" is not the bassist, he is a guitarist. In fact, he is not a real member of the Counting Crows. He is David Immergluck and al though he has played with them over the Forum had a general distaste for each other. As we began to grow older, we began to find things in com mon. We had both gone through the same struggle. All are problems of the past seem trivial compared to what we are going through now. In light of the recent events, my sister has felt the backlash. She is afraid to leave the house. The mosque she at tends had bricks thrown through the window. She says that people give her the finger and tell her to go home. My sister's home is Medfield Massachusetts. She is an American citizen. Ignorance breeds violence. The rift right now between the majority of Americans and the Nation of Islam is unwar ranted. Why do we as race of beings fear what we do not un derstand? We did it to the Na tive Americans when they got in our way. We did it to African Ameri cans and still do. We put the Japanese in interment camps following Pearl Harbor. When are we going to stop? We need more education and to show more compassion towards those who are different. My sister does not deserve this. I hope that no one disre spects or hurts her in any way, because that would make them no better than the fundamental ist who took all those innocent lives. is not listed as a member but as a guest on there last CD. 2. "The band moves through their set fluidly, from the juxtaposition of the lyric and melody that is "Round Here"." "Round Here" was NOT performed that night. 3. "The band closed out the set with an absolutely in credible version of Rain King" "Ram King" was the next, to the last song of the set. The set ended with a new song titled "1492." 4. "The band takes the stage for an encore that lasts five songs and another 45 min utes." The encore was only two songs: the new "Goodnight LA" and "Hanginaround." 5. "We shared a remark able experience with 10.000 remarkable strangers." The The Guilfordian GUILFORDIAN READERS. ARE YOU: Flabbergasted that we misrepresented an issue?
