Page 2 Greensboro. N.C. Community Senate update Ali Stewart Senate President-Elect Communication is vital for any community. Trite as I'm sure that sounds, it is true. And Guilford College is no exception. In the last year much has hap pened in the way of increas ing community communica tion on campus, from this very article in the Guilfordian to Senate in the Dining Hall on Wednesdays, and we plan on continuing that in the next year. There will always be a process, especially at a col lege with many administra tive levels, but there is a way to make that process work for the average student. Those students, such as the new Executives of Senate and myself, who truly under stand the process should take the opportunity to help their fellow students under stand. Communication is key to this goal and ultimately as a liaison between the admin istration and students Community Senate plays a significant role in that process. It is why I ran for Senate, to continue working on com munication for a solid rela tionship between and among students, faculty, and staff. Guilford is what you make it and I want to help facilitate students and clubs to reach their goals by helping make the process clear and under- standable to them. Senate has power through more than the money it controls (though over $330,000 a year is no small fee). More importantly power comes from the voice of students. That is why we are current ly looking for a crack team of students for the Senate Steering Committee. As chairs of different Senate committees, these students sit in on meetings with administrators, faculty, and staff working for the whole of Guilford NEWS College, getting information, and empowering students by being their voice and liaisons in important meetings. If you think you are the type of person that would do well at this, pick up an appli cation from the Information Desk in Founders Hall and return it to the Information Desk by 11:59 p.m. on April 6 (next week). If you have any questions, do not hesi tate to get in contact with me through the Senate e-mail: senate@guilford.edu. I am extremely excited about the potential next year holds as are all the execu tives for next year. Leise Gergely (Vice President), John Holt (Treasurer), Lili Sharpless (Secretary), and I are all looking forward to a fabulous year and hope you are as well. Regardless how much energy we put in, how ever, we can't do anything without you. Get involved now to be a part of the tran sition to next year. Empower yourself and let Senate help you. No one lives in isolation. No thing exists in oblivion. Senate is here to create and maintained those bridges between the communities within the college. Come to some meetings, get involved, and find out how you too can be a part of the Guilford community in a powerful way.& JFLMFEK THE PPCjUILFORDIAN Contact Us!
