COMMUNITY MARCH 20, 2009 THE GUILFORDIAN The Guilfordian is the editorially independent student newspaper of Guilford College. The Guilfordian exists to provide a high-quality, reliable, informative and entertaining forum for the exchange of ideas, information and creativity within Guilford College and the surrounding community. General staff meetings for The Guilfordian take place every Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. in Boren Lounge, and are open to the public. Letters The Guilfordian actively encourages readers to respond to issues raised in our pages via letters to the editor. Letters can be submitted via our Web site (www.guil- fordian.com), and should be submitted by 3 p.m. on the Sunday before publication and not exceed 300 words. Let ters that do not meet the deadline or word limit will be considered on a space-available basis. Annonymous letters will not be accepted. Senate Update March 18™ meeting OLD PROPOSALS The Athens Bo)fs Choir and Katastrophe The Pride proposal to bring the Athens Boys Choir and Katastrophe, tvYo prominent female-to-ma!e transsexual musicians, was passed for $2,000. The artists will be performing on March 21,2009 at 6:30 in the Bryan Jr Auditorium, and they will all so be holding a workshop earlier that day. NEW PROPOSALS Richmond “Day at the Fed” Trip Senate heard a proposal to fund a trip to the Richmond Fed for students interested in undertaking careers in economic research.The reimbursement proposal for $300.00 will return next Wednesday. GCRO: Stop Hunger Now A proposal to fund a $2,500 Stop Hunger Now event on campus was brought to Senate.The GCRO sponsored event entails the packing dehydrated, fortified rice-soy meals to be shipped overseas.The proposal will return to Senate next Wednesday. Buses for the Basketball Games A proposal was present to Senate to fund transportation to the Guilford College Men’s Basketball first NCAA Division III national semifinal game, for the 100 students who received tickets from Campus Life. The proposal for $2,000 dollar will be heard next week. Executive Elections: Request for disquafification Acting as the Elections Committee, Senate denied the appeal to disqualify the ticket of Nancy Klosteridis,Trevor Corning, Ian Ferguson, and Hannah Kennedy from running in the Executive Elections, leaving it as an official ticket along with the ticket of Caroline Hemeter, jada Daniel, Bryanna Vohs, and Eleanor Taylor. During the meeting. Senate acting as interim Elections Committee also rein stated a provisional third ticket.The elections will take place on Monday March 30™.
