THE SALEMITE ACADEMY NEWS. The Academy students spent two very pleasant and amusing hours Sat urday evening as the guests of our Y. W. C. A. Zest was given to the party by play ing, “Going to Jesusalem”, “Where you were, who with, and what doing”, “It Is I” and the Virginia Reel, which kept everyone in a constant uproar. About nine o’clock Helen Bailey ap peared with streaming eyes. “What’s the matter?” someone asked as she passed the door. French songs, “Au Clair de la Lune”, and “Frere Jacques”, the latter of which may be sung very enjoyably as a round. For the rest of the hour a French game very like the American game, “Buzz”, was played. At these meetings ability to speak French en tirely is increasing, and it is hoped that before the year is out their in fluence will have been good for all the classes in this language. BIRTHDAY PARTY. As the result of much plaiming and “Onions!” said Helen disappearing | dodging, a delightful surprise birth- into the sideroom and leaving the door ’ ‘ ajar. Yes, it was evidently onions, for people all around the room were snif fing and big ? ? ? were arising in our minds as to the refreshments,—^when, some of our younger members ushered in the dogs. Yea! dogs, real steaming hot-dogs with mustard, rolls and onions. HISTORY CLUB FORMALLY FOR MALLY ORGANIZED— OFFICERS ELECTED. The History Club until the present __ has been only a nominal organization. Ross, Mary Ogbum and Feme Young day party was given Tv.esday night between six and seven o’clock, honor ing Blanche York. The color scheme of pink and .white was carried out in the decorations and hand-painted place cards. Chicken salad, olive and tomato sandwiches, cheese straws, crackers, nuts, mints, ice cream, cake and ice tea made up menu. Knowing Blanche as we did it was a sui*prise for us when it took eight trials to blow out all the candles on the birth day cake. The party consisted of Blanche York, Elizabeth Leight, Katie Holshouser, Harriet Souaer, Jennings Hence forward it is to be one of the most active organizations of our col lege. Miss Biddison of the History department in Wednesday morning chapel announced a meeting of the students and faculty interested in His tory. Mr. Heath presided at the meeting and briefly outlined the pur pose of the organization and the pro gram for the coming year. It was de cided that the History Club should have the following oificers: President, secretary and chairman of executive committee. Miss Alice Lyerly was elected president, Miss Moselle Culler secretary, and Miss Mabel Chinnis, chairman of the executive committee. The meeting was then adjourned by the president. It is anticipated that these occasional, informal meetings for special study of some phase of history or for reports on current events will be of particular interest and value to club members and their friends. FRENCH CLUB MEETING MUCH PROGRESS. A very interesting feature of the regular meeting of the French Club on Monday afternoon was the short scene in a French restaurant presented by Misses Sarah Herndon, Hazel Stephen son, Margaret Smith and Marion Schallert. This plan of organization will be of interest to all music-lovers. INFORMAL RECEPTION FOR SENIORS. On Wednesday afternoon, from four until five-thirty o’clock, the Senior Home Economics students, who are keeping practice house, entertained the other members of their class. The occasion was an informal reception m the Home Economics Department. The room was very prettily decorated with pennants and crepe paper in the class colors, yellow and bl&clc, witn y6i" low chrysanthemums. During the afternoon a delicious salad course was served.
