JOKES
Why They Missed Fame
Lots of men would have left their foot
prints
Time’s eternal sands to grace,
Had they gotten mother’s slipper
At the proper time and place.
Bishop—^“Who can tell me what the
Epistles were?”
Laura Howell—“I can. They were
the wives of the apostles.”
At the Polls
“What is your age, Madame?”
“I’ve seen thirty summers.”
“How long have you been blind?’
Wife, reading newspaper to hus
band—“Here’s a couple that have been
married after fifty years of courtship."
Husband—“We’ll I’m not surprised”.
Wife—“Why?”
Husband—“He was probably so
weak he couldn’t hold out any longer."
Judge—“Take your choice, sixty
days m jail or sixty dollars.”
Culprit—“I’ll take the sixty dollars”
Teacher-to-Boy—“Use the word
fascinate in a sentence.”
Boy—“I had a girl who had twelve
buttons on her dress but she got so
fat she could only fascinate.”
MEETING OF REGISTRARS
Miss deBarritt (addressing class on
“Romeo and Juliet) “Do you all re

E. Tyler (in breathless attention)
“Yes’ml”
Miss deBarritt: Miss Lyerly, take
out the card on which you have writ
ten the notable lines taken from “Mid
summer Nights Dream” and read
them to us.
Hickory: “Oh, I left them in the
book, Miss deBarritt, I didn’t take
them out.”
On March 2nd and 3rd, a meeting of
the registrars of North Carolina Col
leges was held in Greensboro at N. C.
C. W. On the first afternoon Dr.
Thomas Wilson of U. N. C., Dr. Pas
chal, Wake Forest; Dean Wanamaker,
Trinity; Dr. Hood, Davidson; Dr.
Boomower, Meredith; Miss Moore, N.
C. C. W.; Miss Forman, Salem, the
registrars of the seven North Carolina
colleges belonging to the Southern
Association of Colleges and Prepara
tory Schools, met.
Saturday, the representatives of all
North Carolina colleges were invited
to attend the meeting and a State
Association of College Registrars was
organized with Dr. Thos. Wilson of U.
N. C. as chairman and Miss Moore of
N. C. C. W. as secretary. The addi
tional members were Miss McLean,
Queens; Miss Brock, Greensboro Col
lege for Women; President Case, At
lantic Christian College; President
Longaker, Lenoir; Miss Robinson,
Chowan; Miss Turner, St. Mary’s; Mr.
Hollingsworth, Mitchell; Mr. Owen,
N. C. A. & E.
The members of this organization
who represent colleges in the Southern
Association, also belong to the Na
tional Association of Registrars which
meets every other year.
The work of these meetings was
concerned chiefly with the work of the
high schools of the State as shown by
their 1922 graduates now in college
freshman classes. Plans for a unifoi-m
definition of what constitutes an ac
ceptable unit for college entrance was
left to a committee who will report in
May. Through this work it is hoped
that all high schools may have this in
formation for use of 1923 graduates.
'This State Association of Registrars
will be a great help to both colleges
and high schools and we look forward
to other reports from the work begun
by them.
To Rachel Davis and K. Kincaid who
are speaking of sines, cosines and
tangents—
Polly Wolff: “You have to know a
lot of math to work that chemistry,
don’t you”?
Nancye Lowe: “These soup bowls
are the hardest things to pass.”
Margaret Nicholls: “Not as hard as
exams, though.”
H. Uzzle (to Julia Bethea, who is
reading marriage statistics) “What
makes you always read those for”?
J. Bethea: “Because I want to see
if more men than women get married.”
