I THE SALEMITE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS IN EVIDENCE'AT SALEM The spirit of Christmas is already in the air at Salem. The railroad officials were here last Monday to take the orders for tickets. With breathless suspense, the long line waited to give their orders, some going to Florida, some to Georgia, to South Carolina, Tennessee, Ala bama, Virginia, and New York. On next Monday, the men will be back again with the tickets. Saturdaj' night, there will be a Christmas banquet in the dining room and then a Christmas tree in the living room with a real Santa Claus. Sunday, there will be a wonderful Christmas vesper service in the library. Bishop Rondthaler will preside and Christmas carols will be sung. There will be a Christ mas tree with small figures, repre senting the shepherds, Mary and the Christ-child. Then when Wednesday comes— all aboard for the best place on earth, home. WALKING CLUB GOES ON REGULAR SATURDAY HIKE Last Saturday afternoon the Walking Club, under the leadership of Dean Shirley, took a delightful hike out by Granville and through the woods to Ardmore. When going through a narrow woods road, the leaders with Dean Shirley thought they would play a trick on the others by hiding behind some trees; so when the hikers with Miss Jack son came to this point, thinking they were lost, and turning to see what was the matter, they discovered the others in hiding. After this they walked steadily and at 5:45 all twenty walkers were pleased to hear the dinner bell on Salem Campus. MISS BARROW ENTERTAINS BUSINESS STUDENTS On Monday afternoon Miss Bar row delightfully entertained all of her business students, at the home of her sister on South Main Street. MACDOWELL CLUB PRE SENTS A TALE OF TWO CITIES All people connected with Salem College are glad when a moving picture is announced to be shown in the following Saturday. Salem feels that it owes much to the Mac- Dowell Club for bringing to Win- iton-Salem “A Tale of Two Cities,’' a picture taken from the famous and widely read story of that name by Charles Dickens. It was with rreat anticipation that students of both College and Academy, faculty, md friends gathered in Memorial ilall on Saturday night. Everyone ,vas expecting something fine, but they were not anticipating a picture which might be classed with “The Birth of a Nation” and other uper-productions. The Tale of Two 'ities is a picture of the French Revolution, and depicts the people, .‘ustoms, and terrible conditions vhich existed during this period. It s a Fox production with William /’arnum portraying the leading character. In no other way can history be- ;ome so real to people as by seeing he happenings and events. When ne is not able to see the actual appenings, there is perhaps no >etter way of learning than through ,.ie medium of moving pictures. Per- laps “A Tale of Two Cities” is not he most entertaining picture that he MacDowell Club has brought o Salem. It is not the most amusing jieture, but it is by far the most nstructive. Everyone who saw it reels that she has seen a picture vhich is truly great.
