We welcome you at all times. EXCHANGES In the week preceding spring holidays, the Freshmen of Queens ollege observed Better Speech Week. During this time each stu dent made an effort to speak as cor- English as possible. Mi.spro- nounced words, grammatical errors ■xeessive use of slang were re corded, together with the name of the offending person, and corrected in class at the end of the week. A list of the mistakes from all sections of the Freshmen Englash was made and posted on the bulletin boards. aim of this campaign was to encourage the use of better English every-day conversation. At the University of Mexico, .stu dents generally begin their univer sity life at the age of thirteen or fourteen, as soon as they have fin ished elementary schools. By this time they have chosen what profes- n they will follow and are ready enter the University Preparatory School where five years are spent hard study. At the end of this irse the student is supposed to be ie to express himself with some degree of intelligence on any liter ary or scientific subject. He is then ready to go to the specializing school of his chosen profession where he studies for six or seven years. In this university no activity is followed other than an intellectual one. The president of Antioch College recently placed in the hand of all of the students, blanks on which are to rate each member of the faculty. The professors will graded according to the degre( A’liich they measure up, in the opin ions of the students, to the follow ing four points: (1) Fairness grading; (2) ability to present m ter clearly; (3) willingness to j vise students on personal, religi and vocational matters; (t) val as a faculty member, to Antioch College. There are po litical parties, platforms and speeches by the candidates for of fice. Those candidates offering the best improvements in the scholastic or social life of the college have the best chance of being elected. The University of Kansas conducted the most vigorous political campaign It is said that the universities ituTcasing the intense spirit of tionalism in the great countries the world today by their narrow one-sided method of teaching. Each university is too much prejudiced favor of the history, language e of its own c the student an impersonal and biased view of the history, language or science of other countries, remedy for this so-called national istic education, two World Univer sities have been founded, ^ Brussels and one at Vienna, the aim of these universities to teach the idea of world-unit; to discuss the possibilities of ing a world civilization by ii gating the contributions which the various national and racial civiliza tions have made and can make tc the world and by demonstrating the results of these researches in books, lectures or films. They will international museums in which all the best artistic, scientific and nomic products of each nation will be collected. They will, above all, endeavor to give to their students the best that is in the world. A million dollar Fellowship Fund has been established by the Ameri can Association of the International Federation of University Women, for the advancement of international good-will. Winners of the Follow- ships will be awarded scholarships permitting them to study in an;^ country but their own. Students of any nationality may receive these awards and may stury in any c try which they choose.
