Lord Jesus Saviour pilot me Mary to her Saviour’s tomb. Proper appraisement of the vener-^ able Bishop Rondthaler, dean of the Moravian Church of North Carolina, would list him well among the first citizens of North Carolina, first in consecration to a noble work, first in his thorough dedication to the Christian ministry, first in exten siveness of work well done for the Kingdom of God and first in that subtle influence for good that pro ceeds from such a man as this in a sort of endless and immeasureable stream. Bishop Rondthaler’s ministry for his own church represents an epic in constructive service. Memorable his long life as a servant of the Most High in the ranks of a church that is better known for its conse crated loyalties than for its con- spicuity and Bishop Rondthaler in his personal life, was typical of this ideal. He was not a man eternally seeking to be seen and heard; on the other hand, it suited him much bet ter to do his labors quietly and without acclaim, to perform his min istry without the blatings of brass bands and to live his life out in humble service for Him whom he chose to represent. Verily, a great man has fallen. —Charlotte News. For Flowers WINSTON-SALEM FLORAL CO. Arcade Nissan Bldg. PILLARS OF FAITH As they buried the venerable Bishop Rondthaler there must have been some among the mourning thou sands who pondered the contribution that he and his kind have made to the betterment of mankind. What an influence they have wielded in parts of the world—on the conti nent, in England, in America and perhaps elsewhere. Limited num bers in limited spheres, the Morav ians and those similar groups of re ligionists from Central Europe have been a power for good in the world. Principally in Pennsylvania and North Carolina in this country, they have established their simple but superb faith and their quaint but wholesome customs so firmly that centuries have not erased one or the other. Indeed, their faith can never die, as the venerable bishop told his people in old Salem time and again, while their customs are only begin ning slowly to yield to newer ways in spots here and there. Those first American Moravians whc crossed the sea and located in, then remote regions, seemingly seek ing solitude, as if shunning contami nation, were examples of devout ness, courage and industry to those who settled around them. They' brought high ideals with them, for Central Europe had long lived by higher ideals than the rest of the world. Those ideals have been per petuated, to tlie benefit of millions.
