HOCKEY MEET About ten or twelve girls are plj ning to leave F'riday morning for Harrisonburg, Va., where they will attend the hockey meet. SWIMMING Several girls have felt like a cold bath recently, so they liave been swimming. It must be great, if you don’t freeze. BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE FASHION SHOW Yes, I know one thing which is ore intoxicating than seeing good looking girls in really swell looking clothes that is being one of those good looking girls in really swell looking clothes you’ll never know, until you reduce a little, how exeite- to walk sedately from out of the great nowhere and stroll back and forth (and sometimes around) before the stage lights—seeing and thinking of no one but yourself. Since there was no mirror, I really did feel like Norma Shearer. I have never seen her in prettier clothes tlian those we wore. And you member that rhythmic stroll she had in “A Free Soul”.^ It just naturally fitted in with Ann Libba McKinnon’ t Chapel Hill t Lexington, Va at Chapel Hill. CAROLINA Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday FIVE-STAR-FINAL With Edward Robinson and Marian Marsh Five-Star-Final portrays the hav oc wrought in a respectabl® family, when tlie scandal sheet reveals a long-buried skeleton-causing the sui cide of tlie parents of a young girl who is about to marry, and ruining her future happiness. World Events Washington, D. C.— President Hoover, in “the most important conference since tl presented a plan for relief of the economic depression. The sense of his far-reaching proposal is I lease the frozen assets of this try by raising a $500,000,000 fund among private bankers. Also, 1 would negotiate readjustment of ii ternational debt relations during the period of depression. In response to the president’s appeal for public sentiment in behalf of unity of action there came enthusiastic sup port from both parties. To the American people this plan promises to give definite relief from the pres ent financial crisis. Madrid, Spain— With the resignation of Alcala Yamora from the office of provis ional president of Spain comes the complete separation of church and state. Following restrictions on the Catholic Church made by the assem bly, Yamora, a devout Catholic, ceded his position in the new repub lic to Manuel Azana, his former ister of war. Intense excitement prevailed as the assembly debated the status of the church in the state; police clubbed a dozen Communists and strove to cheek the mob outside the chamber of deputies. Ayana was selected without a dissenting vote. Geneva— The League of Nations strives with a problem so serious that it even ertdangers the life of the I.eague. Before the Council there ir a declaration from China that she ii resolved to resort to war against Japan, and with it comes a message from Tokyo that she would bitterly resent interference by the League or the U. S. In Tokyo it is asserted that Japan will hold out for nego tiations with China alone. Aristide Briand presiding over the Council asserts a solution “must be found at all costs” and “the chief thing is to work fast.” F'riday, Saturday THE COMMON LAW With Constance Bennett Constance Bennett is the biggest me in pictures by box-office test. )r this picture 2'he Common Law her reputation as the best-dressed 'Oman on the screen is proved when she appears in the gorgeous clothes designed for her in this producti by Jean Walseling.
