Orpheus was first produced in the
ate 18th century, marking at the
:ime, a change from the artificial,
itilted operas of the Italian Neapoli
tan School to a more normal and
dramatic form. It has since held
important place in all the opera
houses of the world. The story is
that of the myth of Orpheus which
is concerned with his seeking his
dead wife, Eurydice, in the under
world. The spell of his music is so

The myth ends here, but in the opera
Eurydice is restored to life again and
ali finishes happily.
The concert will be free and open
to the public.' It is one of the out
standing events of commencement and
is certainly worth while hearing.
