SOCIALLY SPEAKING Salem and State Colleges seem to get along swell — both inter-col- legiately as well as-uh-anyway, just ask Katherine Sissell and Marlon Mitchell what we mean and you will hear them sigh, “U-m-m-m-m— and how!” which explains eve»y- thing. Both Katherine and Marion are “true” to State, and it’s no new thing to them to be invited down. In fact, it’s getting to be a habit. Socially speaking, the Freshmen do not let trigonometric functions so overcome them that they cannot enjoy a good dance. Some of the freshmen manage to keep their names well known in other college circles besides Salem. Peggy Braw- ley attended the Carolina dance last week, and has already been invited to several more. Although the cold weatlier does not make us wish for flimsy silks but winter woolens, the stores are showing new styles in gay, bright materials that defy wintry winds and goose pimples. The usual spring prints have been subdued by the altogether new. Blue, just plain navy blue, is also being featured as one of the leading spring colors. The new “sea color ed” blues, (the best weca n do and include all shades), are being shown as spring colors in spite of their sud den appearance in midwinter. With such inviting fashions, it won’t be hard to pull ofif the winter plaids and brown oxfords for new spring styles even in February. Qabby Qertie “Unexpected storme are encoun. tered by saxaphonists exploring the high C’8.” INTERIOR DECORATION The interior decoration of the hut Saturday night has been com plimented from all directions. Lights, streamers, balloons, punch and men, everything to be de sired was provided, and all on a limited budget. The bouquets go ' to the men of the faculty. The price of wisdom is above ru bies. Old Testament. The habit of borrowing small sums of money — anticipating pay-day — is a pernicious practice and breaks many a friendship. It is no kind ness to loan money to a professional borrower. “What rage for fame attends both great and small!
