TENTH ANNUAL MAY DAY PROGRAM SALEM BEAUTIES Helen Totten, sophomore, was born in Birmingham, Alabama and has lived in Atlanta, Georgia, for the past several years. She is a candidate for the bachelor of Arts degree in the field of Sociology and Eeonomies. “Nan” was a member of the May Court her freshman year and she has taken part in many of the cam pus activities. She is a member of the Math Club, Le Cercle Francais, and Freshman Dramatic Club during her freshman year. This year she is a member of the History Club, the editorial staff of the Salemite, and has recently been elected a.s- sistant treasurer of the Math Club. Mary Louise McClung, of Winston Salem, N. C., has belonged to many of the major organizations at Salem, including: the I. R. S. Council, Scor pion Club, and is Treasurer of Stu dent Governmen and Assistant busi ness manager of ‘ ‘ Sights and In sights” this year. She is also a Senior Marshal. Cornelia Wolfe was born in Char lotte, North Carolina. She has been a member of the May Court since her freshman year at Salem. This year she has been a member of the Ath letic Council, the Y. W. C. A. Cab inet, “Sights and Insights” staff, Le Cercle Francais and the Psy chology Club. Siie has been on the Varsity Hockey team and Basket ball team for two years. Mary Elizabeth Walston of Win- ston-Salem is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Walston. She is a graduate of Salem Academy and is college this year, taking a business course at the college this year. Willie Fulton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Fulton of Gate City, Virginia. She has served for two years on May Day Committees. She is a member of the business staff of the “Salemite” and of the Home Economics Club. Martha Eawlings was born in Win ston-Salem, North Carolina. She is at present a member of the Fresh man Class. Some of her activities in High School consisted of Membership in the Dramatic Club, a sponsor of the “Hi-Y” Club and membership on the business staff of the school annual. Last year she was elected the prettiest girl in the Senior Class as well as the prettiest high school girl in North Carolina. SALEM BEAUTIES Meredith Holderby, the sun child, was born in Conneticut; has lived in almost every part of the world; and lias had more novel experiences than is hardly conceivable. Mere dith entered Salem this year as a Junior having attended Peace Pre paratory School and Junior College for the past five years where she was an outstanding student. She is a candidate for the bachelor of arts degree in the field of history; and is a popular member of the History Club, Alpha Iota Pi, and is a Jun ior marshal. Julia Preston, of Washington, D. C., is an attractive member of the Sophomore class. She was in the May Court her Freshman year, also she is a member of the I. E. S. Coun cil, German Club, Math Club, Ath letic Council, Pierrette Players, Chairman of the Finance Committee for May Day, and a member of the staff of the Salemite. Miss Virginia Gough of Roanoke, Virginia besides being a member of the May Court this year has been a member of the Psychology Club and hag participated in other col lege activities. She attended Roan oke College her Freshman and Jun ior years. Frances Alexander is the daugh ter of Mrs. Joseph E. Alexanler of Winston-Salem. She is a junior. She has taken part in a number of ac tivities. This year she is a member of the I. B. S. Council for the sec ond year and is a member of the History Club. :\Iiss Cordelia Lowry of Bedford, Virginia, the charming ]V[ay Qneen, has been in the Jfay Court for three preceeding years. She is tlie President of the I. R. S. Council for this year. She has belonged to the Home Economics Club, Science Club, and has been a member of several May Day Committees. Miss Lowry is not only outstanding in scholastic activities but also in athletics. She has won the horse show for two years and belonged to the swimming team. Miss Helen Jones, jVIaid of Honor, in the May Court this year, has also entered into other college activities. She has been on the I. R. S. Council, and member of the Glee Club, Math, Psychology and History Clubs. She is from Fayetteville. Dorothy Wyatt is Winston-Salem’s “Goldilocks.” She was graduated from Salem Academy in 1935 and is now a Sophomore at Salem College. Dot is a candidate for the bachelor of science degree. Not only is she interested in her Chemistry but is also a member of the Alpha Iota Pi, Le Cercle Francais, business staff of “Sights and Insights,” and Dre.sa Committee of May Day. She has been an attendant in the May Court both of her college years. Miss Virginia Lee, of Kinston, N. C., has been in th May Court for two preceeding years. Being a mem ber of the Athletic Council, Math Club, Y. W. C. A. Cabinet, Secre tary and Treasurer of tlie I. R. S. Council, Associate Editor for “Sights and Insights,” the year and newly elected Editor for next year, and Senior marshal for two years, she is one of the most popular Juniors at Salem.
