Page Four. THE SALEMITE Friday, January 12, I94Q. Ath-a-letic Sal s. O. s.! 8.0. S.l CalliDg all stu dents and teachers to the aid of one Mr. McEwen! Said teacher has lost hia dearly beloved badminton racket and without such cannot begin prac tice when the badminton season opens after exams. Surely we can’t let this happen! Let’s search our rooms. Maybe one of us carried it off by mistake. Sledding seems to be the sport right now, and the spills and tum bles add all the more to the fun. Our thanks to the city for blocking off the street for us and to the fif teen or twenty little boy* for lend ing the sleds. It may be a little late to be mak ing New Year’s resolutions now, but anyway, here are a few every Phy. Ed. student should make and KEEP. I resolve: —to be on time to all my Phys. Ed. classes; so we can get through on time. —to go to afternoon practices at least three times a week. —to treat Phys. Ed. as all other rtasses. —to find out more about the' work of the Athletic Association and Oouneil. —to take an interest in ray class teams and help them all I can. —Not to gripe about tests, classes, and games. Liberty Street Across Street Ftom State Theatre NEW FACES AT PRACTICE At long last basketball haa be come a sport for the masses — Thanks to a plan made by the man agers of the Major Sports and the heads of the Phy. Ed, department. The plan calls for three separate practice periods: One at 2 o’clock on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fri days for beginners; another at 4 o’clock on Mondays through Fridays for intermediates; and stUl another at 5 o’clock Mondays through Pri days for advanced players. This sys tem provides a chance for all to practice with their own group there by eliminating all chances for cm barrassment. And according to the number at each practice, it seems that fear of embarrassment has pre viously detained quite a few. The regular class games will begin as soon after exams as possible. As usual, there will be two tournaments — an A tournament for the ad vanced players and a B tournament for the not-quite-so-advanced. These games are loads of fun; and if you’d like to take part in them now’s the time to take advantage of the practice periods. CAROLINA-V. P. I. Thursday night at Beynolds Gym the beautiful boys from Carolina won a 46-25 victory over the “not quite so beautiful” boya from V.PJ.
