Page Four. THE SALEMITE Friday, October 25, 1940. SALEM eiRLS TO GO TO DUKE STATE NOCKEY TEAMS TO MEET Tomorrow, October 26, is State Hockey Day at Duke. At this time the various North Carolina colleges will send their hockey teams there for discussion and playing of the most up-to-date hockey. At 1:30 P. M. the teams will register and beginning at 2:30 short games of 15 minutes each will be played be tween the teams. Following the games, a tea will be held in honor of the players, at which time the all-state team will be selected. The starting line-up for Salem will be: L. W Bowen L. I. Lanning C McGeehee E. TOURNAMENT WINNERS Last Friday was a big day for little Peggy Burnett of Roanoke, Va. On this day she became cham pion of the Freshmen tennis play ers by defeating Bonnie Angelo 6-2, 6-2. Peggy has shown great ability on the courts all year. Her lovehand drives are swift and well- placed, her serves are fast and well-timed, and her footwork is light and speedy. Four Sophomores got together to play for the upper classmen’s title. After three tense sets, Lindy Stokes and Kitty McCoy defeated Sarah Henry and Mary Lib Rand 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. The low opponents were even all the way through, in fact there were six deuce games played. The two finalists of last year’s Freshman tournament combined to make the victorious pair.
