THE SALEMITE Friday, January 10, 1941, S P CIR T / TWO BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS PLANNED NEW POINT SYSTEM IS INAUGURATED Basketball is here again, and play will be in full swing in a few weeks when the class tournaments begin. There are to be two tournaments again this year, an “A” tournament and a “B” tournament, and a cup will be awarded to the winner of each. Last year the present juniors won the “A” cup and the present Seniors the “B” cup. The plan of having two tourna ments began several years ago when it was seen that many deserving players were left out of the play since so few players compose a team. So far both tournaments have in spired much interest and spirit. A new plan for awarding points to the two teams will be used this ^ear: To members of the “A” team — four points; to a substitute on the “A” team — one or two points de pending on service rendered; to members of the “B” team — 2 points; to a substitute on the “B” team — one point. But another rule reads: “Seniors and Juniors who do not attend 30 per cent of the called practices of a sport will not receive any points in that sport but may play on the team; Sophomores and Freshmen who do not attend 40 per cent of the called practices of a sport will not receive points in that sport but may play on the team.” Therefore, if you’d like to make your points, don’t forget about practice. Smoking equipment from men have far surpassed all records set pre viously by Christmas ties from women. And speaking of the last week in Leap Year—several of the more fortunate ones got their men for Christmas. Wedding bells follow Christmas bells. But don’t feel too bad, chums; inspite of exams and the foreign situation and the draft—after all, spring holidays are only thirteen weeks away.
