A May festival in Brittany will be the theme Saturday afternoon at 5 o’c
lock at Salem College in May Day Dell when Miss Katharine King will be
crowned Queen of May by the Princess of Poetic Vagabonds, played by Miss Eliz
abeth Trotman. Miss King was chosen queen in a popular election held by the
students. Miss Margaret Patterson, who received next to the largest number of
votes, became maid-of-honor and the others shown above were chosen as
members of the court. The celebration this year will attempt to recreate a Brit
tany May Day in 1452. Considerable research has been done to assure accuracy
in details of co^mes, scenery and properties. Costumes for the main chqrac
ters were specially ordered, while those for the dancers and villagers were
designed and made hy home economics students working with Misses Gladys
Blackwood and Melmn Hill. Music of that period has been arranged for or
chestra by Misses Marian Johnson and Margaret Leinbach. To take care of ex
penses involved in the production, students have earned money at the college
Tea Room by serving refreshments in the evening, with Miss Lucy Springer in
charge. The 15th ceniury French tavern has been designed and built bv the
art department.-—^// pictures courtesy Jouncal-Sentinel
