Par^e Four. THE SALEMITE Nov. 1, 1946. Juniors Are Defeated By Seniors, Freshmen Ghastly Ghoul Search Is On By Nancy Carlton "Oh-h-h. Gee, I’m sleepy. Wonder what’s on the radio. Mniin-iiiin. I’ll turn it on as soon as my arm will move. Funny. It’s so heavy. Can’t reach radi ■— Jilnimmm.” This is radio Inferno turning in with your announcer, Gadsome Ghoul. The latest report of the search for Ghastly-tiike-an-Aspirin, renown spy of last Halloiveen, has just come in. This is the news the Low’er World has been waiting for. Go ahead. We have sad news to report. The trial of Ghastly Aspirin led to the locker room of the Salem College gymnasium last night. All the forces of Inferno invaded the room and over-whelmed any person believing to be the suspect. Unfortunately a picture of Ghastly has never been secured, (lucky A1 Capp), so there were many suspects. We, the Gestapo of the Under world, silently and methodically surrounded the room. We had ghouls overhead to brush the faces of those entering in order to detect the famous Ghastly complexion. Ghouls were stationed around the edges of the floor to prevent the Aspirin from escaping. Naturally, a few were entangled by mistake, morning mirrors. Outside the room, Carolyn Taylor, alternately mumbling and scream ing, was questioned about the As pirin by our Intelligenee-ha! staff, but she only shrugged in reply. A Mr. Evett was found drawing re markable caricatures. He was also questioned but he replied, “Form follows function.” Even the fortune teller sighed and said, “ .\fter look ing at the past of Evelyn Knox, I can see no more.” We obeyed. We saw how the middle world lives. Give me Inferno or give me death. I am bringing you an exact account of what we witnessed. Willie Spach and Carol Gregory sang together (!) “You Are My Sunshine.” Thereupon a com crop, long vanished, appeared. On the sidelines, two apes, Sally Tnielove and Gerry Hancock, re mained in a cage, but could still be seen! Even we ghosts could not escape the sight. Margaret Eaynal, Mae Noble, Jane McElroy, and Katherine Ives each sold their separate sideshows with as come- hither grins as any of the primitive ghouls ever used in the dark ages. On the whole (ee terror), our mem bers of the Ghoul Gestapo gathered valuable information although Ghast ly Aspirin is still on the loose. One minute, Infernians. Another report has just come in. Trials of the As pirin have been found leading to the bedroom of “Eihhhhhhh!!!!!!!!” “Wake up, stupid. It’s just a nightmare. Why don’t you take an aspi — — ” EErd’s Dept. Store 430-432 N. TBADE ST. Winston-Salem, N. C. * By Jean Sullivan Against sterner opposition, the freshmen might have suffered severely Wednesday afternoon. How ever, the Juniors did not possess tlie necessary 0[>position, and the froshnieii defeated them 2-0. It was a close game. The juniors showed more vigor than they did Monday against the seniors. Mary Jane Trager ru-hed through the junior line for the first goal, and •loan Roeser for the second, both in the first half. The juniors held them tlie second half showing their never- dying spirit. .Jane MeKlrov, Helen Spruill, and Jane Morris were the junior’s outstanding players/ Junior-Senior Game The second game of the hockey tournament was played*between the .luniors and Seniors, Monlay after noon. The Seniors won by five points. In the first minutes of the game, the teams seemed to, be fairly matched, the ball being batted back and forth around the fifty-yard line. However, Heitman took possession of the ball, and she made the first goal for the Seniors. In a few min utes, Senter made another quick goal from the edge of the circle. The .lunior offense did not seem to be “clicking,” but the defense, led liy Stone and Conner, gave the Seniors a hard tussle. The first half of the game ended with the score, 2-0, in favor of the Seniors. In the beginning of the second lialf, Stroup, Senior center fore ward, made a goal. Bullock, who s h 0 w O' d especially fine playing throughout the game, followed with two more goals. They also were noticed to always be facing their goal, oho of the basic fundamen tals of the game. During the second half the Junior offense, led by Fisher and Bryant, worked better than the first, but the cooperative teamwork of the Seniors downed them, and the final whistle brought the game to a close with the score, 5-0, in favor of the Seniors. r Quality Merchandise At Moderate Prices !?S355!
