February 27, 1948 THE SALEM ITE > Page Three Eger Bedve Delves Into Elections by Jane Morris Eger Beave is having the time of his young life right now. He just loves election years. He got caught by two Wallace supporters Saturday as he was counting the bricks in Main ttall for recreation. They smothered him with pamphlets and tore off the buttons of his coat and replaced them with .“Wallace-48 buttons. If he can find a car going to Chapel Hill this Saturday, he’s going to hide in the glove compart ment and get the inside dope on their conference this week-end. I told him lie ought to think sediously about this matter—that Wall^e is causing much worry in the Demo cratic party, especially in the North. They aren’t too worried about all the Southern Democrats and the fuss they’re making over the Civil Eights Eeport. Strategists say that they will come around by November. Eger Beave is sitting' on the ‘ ‘ mar gin release” jumping up and down trying to get me to say something about the cross-up that the Eepubli- cans, Dewey and Taft, have gotten themselves in. I told him that from a strictly personal point of view I didn’t care in the least. That would seem to bring Vandenberg suddenly in the presidential limelight again. He has said that he is not a candi date, but will “yield to a spon taneous draft,” in other words, “I 11 run if you want me.” The Dems will obviously run Harry and at the moment are saying that they can win with anybody, and B. B. was in a certain teacher’s coat pocket and overheard him say that he believes Wallace will win, and so he just can’t wait for the outcome. He is keeping me posted on the lastest tips and is just dying for an argument with someone here on campus. I’m to act as a go- between so if you want to let him know who you think will win, see me, and I’ll arrange an interview. “Stand up and be counted,” says m Barber Photo Supply Company Kodak Headquarters 106 W. 5th St.—Opposite Post Office WINSTON-SALEM, N.
